After all my posts re: my songwriting, I felt like it's time to put my music where my mouth is and post something. Here's the latest one.

http://faithcurrant.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/Roots-master-track.wav

I wrote, sang and co-produced, but did not play guitar or any other instruments on it.

I'm not a songwriter or a musician, but I've listened to a lot of music in my life and I think I know what constitutes a good song and Faith, that is a good song. Great job. I don't know what you have planned for it, but I hope it turns out to be successful for you.

Moe

Edit P. S. Nice job on the vocals as well.

Thank you! I appreciate the listen.

I don't know what I have planned for it, either. I'm just getting back to songwriting after being away for... awhile, so i'm still figuring out how it's all going to unfold.

I try to follow the songwriting credo laid down by Billy Joel -- I write what I like and want to hear without worrying about where it will end up!

Not understimating the accompanying work input, you're talented and naturally gifted Faith, with a most appealing singing voice many of us here could only admit to envy, even keeping in perspective of those of us restricted to any near equivalent within traditiitional male vocal range and pitch.

I'm not so fond of the quaver technique as you deployed it within that song if being appreciatively honest. A personal preference/bias?

[br]Regardless, well done. Competent writing, production and vocal as far as this lay listener's ears can discern.

Thanks for posting.

Thank you for the listen! I appreciate it. It's been awhile, so I need to get used to sharing music again and this is a good safe place to do it.

And yep, the vibrato is part of the package -- I tried to get rid of it years ago, but now I embrace it as just what I sound like. (Good thing I'm a huge Stevie Nicks fan...!)

Great song Faith, seemes like I hear JD's influence from his later work in it, love the harmony voices in the middle of the song.

The lyrics remind me of a wish I asked the Lord when I was a young kid; please Lord don't let me die until the day I have seen it all and don't amuse myself any more and want to die myself, but turning 62 in 2 months I still are having a ball every day and still lots of plans for my life so looks like I will need to go to at least the double of my age now LOL

Maybe you should open up a Soundclick acount and put the song there to see if people like it, lots of famous artists use soundclick and lots of talent hunters there to so give it a try, it's free.

Thanks! JD is always a huge influence for me, so that's a high compliment. (and I LOVE that you know of his later work, which is extraordinary and so unknown)

Yeah, I do need to figure out a platform. I'm still finding my footing again... I'll check out Soundclick, thank you for the tip!

Faith, this song is beautiful! And you have a lovely voice. Bravo!

I am trying to think of what it reminds me of Faith and I come up with names like Gordon Lightfoot, Jodi Mitchel and an artist famous here in Canada - Buffy Sainte-Marie (not sure if she is known outside of Canada but had a vibrato to her voice as well).

What are your influences?

Thank you, and oh, what lovely company to be in! I'm honored. And yes, of course, we know Buffy SM in the US!

Influences... John Denver and Emmylou Harris would be my main influences (and my co-producer is also a huge JD/Emmylou fan, so that's doubled). Also Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac.Townes van Zandt and Gram Parsons, Jessi Colter. And I've been listening a lot to Marianne Faithfull lately, esp her Broken English album. Billy Joel is who originally inspired me to sing and write, but I don't think I'm influenced by his style per se, I just love his music.

Yes of course, Emily Lou, not sure how I missed that. Man can I hear her now that you mention it.

I just downloaded the song. Let me know how I can pay you for it.

Wow! And oh gosh you don't need to pay me for it, but thank you for the offer. I sitll don't know where all of this is going. Right now, I'm just happy to be making music again and taking it one step at a time.

Wow !! That blew me away. Great singing and songwriting. Yes, as a fellow JD afficienado I can hear his influence. Also reminds me a bit of Stevie Nicks` " After the glitter fades", which is my favorite solo effort from her. Good luck. I think folks who appreciate good music would buy it. I know I would.

Thank you, moosehockey! JD's "How Can I Leave You Again" was the inspiration for this song. And After the Glitter Fades is one of my favorite Stevie songs.

BTW, have you seen the doc that Dave Stewart did about working on her In Your Dreams album with her a few years ago? It's really good. Avail on Amazon Prime for streaming. Really good.

Well, then I owe you Faith, because it is now uploaded to both my Apple Music account and YouTube Music.

And thinking more on what you said, I was trying to find a video of a Fleetwood Mac song I recorded, and of course I can't find it, but I do hear that song as well.

Anyways, so glad you posted it! I always enjoy it when people dive in with both feet, and you certainly have!

Oh, I'd be very interested in which Fleetwood Mac song you're thinking of, if you ever find it back...

Found it

Edit: this is a cover band Faith, but I still feel in love with the song. From what the band claimed, FM had recorded it but never released it.

Oh yes, Silver Spring! It was originally recorded for Rumors, but Lindsey Buckingham (? Maybe Mick Fleetwood, but it feels like more of a Lindsey move) felt it didn't fit on the album, so it was bumped. It was a B-side to Go Your Own Way, back when there were B-sides... I love this song!

Well this is interesting. I just updated my post, but you filled me in with information. I didn't think this song had even been released.

Oh well. I actually came away from the show wishing I had spent my paper money on some FM albums. But back in the '70s a kid had to be prudent with the music budget. $3.20/wk in earnings would only go so far:))

I wasn't sure if it was Fleetwood Mac in the video... too far away and blurry and it did kind of sound like Christine McVie (though I wondered where Stevie was, LOL). It's a good cover.

And yeah, I remember those days. Fortunately for me, my dad was a musicologist and he had a grant from the state of Oregon at the time that basically allowed us to go into record stores and buy whatever we wanted with more or less no limit... good times!
