I'm a fairly beginning guitarist (about 6 mos now), and my practice amp doesn't have reverb.

Is it better for me to get the ($100) Crate amp w/ reverb or could I get a good sound from a reverb pedal (like the Danelectro Corned Beef, $40) and still use the amp from the Ibanez pack?

Is there any resell value on the practice amps?

You can get reverb from a pedal , multi-effect or an amp , and the quality of the reverb might be the same but a bigger amp will improve your overall sound significantly.

I cant see the point in running a pedal through a small practise amp, I say you go for the bigger and better amp as you'll get a much better sound. Then again, i was using a stagg practise amp for 5 years, lol

well, just so we're on the right track...

I'm talking about the difference between a $60 and $100 amp. Would the new amp still be that much better?

lol... I don't even have the $ for either until a bit after Christmas! :)

Get the amp, it has 2 advantages :

1-Reverb.
2-Better overall sound.

While the reverb pedal is only a reverb, and you'll still have to stick with the low sound of your amp , which you're going to change for a bigger one someday for sure.

i think that you should just get a new amp that's bigger and louder and has reverb. a pedal would work too, but the amp is a big step in the right direction.
hope i helped.
Thanks for listening to this small piece of me.

If you're just starting out - I might make a suggestion - rathar than buying a another "better" amp just to piss off the neighbors and make the dogs hair fall out. You should consider an effects processor with a headphone jack. I started out on a Digitech RP-1. The RP2000 has a built in drum machine to jam along with. BOSS makes the GT series and I also own a Korg AX1000G which is a really versatile machine. You can pick these up used relatively cheap on ebay, I occasionally have some up on my site http://guitar-pedal.com . In my case, this really improved my playing - and I was able to practice alot more because I wasn't bothering anyone.
If you still want the reverb - I had a Fender Frontman 25R w/reverb - it was a pretty loud amp for the price ($100.00), but the 8" speaker would break up at higher volumes.
...another toy, to help destroy, the elder race of man

Hey man...
I personally dont find that reverb is entirely essential. If I were you I would save up some more cash and go for a bigeer better amp...I cant believe that you guys get amps for $60, here the cheapest amp starts at about R2000, which is roughly $220 ( I am in South Africa ) maybe look at some Hughes and Ketner amps, they rock. Good Luck. Just dont waste cash on summin that you will want to sell in a few months...get summin that you will use for a while
