Hi there, I've just bought myself a second hand Ibanez RG570 and I'd like to get myself some really good pickups to go with it, ideally some that can be made (somehow) to pick up the treble strings as loud as the bass strings so I won't loose volume as I increase pitch on an undistorted sound - I mean for legato/tapped stuff, there's no problem with picked stuff as there is. I thought of active pickups. What do you think?
If I couldn't laugh at myself how could I laugh at someone less ridiculous?

Bass frequencies just have more energy than high frequencies, it'll always seem like they are louder.

Have you ever considered using a compressor for clean sounds? I think that would do the trick for you.

Thanks, but I already use compression.
Do you think thicker strings on the treble end would help?
How heavy can you go without hurting your neck?

Try adjusting your pick-ups hight with the screws.

You can make the pick-ups closer to the treble strings , so that they come out louder than they are now.

But take care that if you make it so close to the strings the sound might get a little muddy.. I also remember that I read somewhere about the magnets in the pick-ups which helps damping the strings faster, and this may weaken your sustain.

I think I know a way to solve it with the compression, but it would be the 'audio-geek' way, lol. ;)

Heavier strings will probably help. They give more intense sound, tone and sustain(imho). I'm pretty sure you could go up to 012 or even 013, as long as you adjust the truss rod when you change gauges.

Cheers, I've tried it but the pickup's a bit loose and sometimes the pickups engage with the strings! Perhaps I should raise them just a little.

As for changing the truss rod tension I guess that's a job for an expert, I'm clueless at that stuff!

Thanks for the advice.

the guy's at Dimarzio have suggested that it may be that my amp's not sensitive enough or my guitar's set up wrong though I have to say for normal purposes it sounds fine. Can anyone recommend a really ass kickin' splitable humbucker please?

You can try the opposite. Try making the pick-ups further from the bass strings instead. :D

But this may make your sound lower, specialy when the distortion is on.

Anyone know what pickup satch uses on "the forgotten part II"? Tone doesn't get better than that!

Satch main pickup is DiMarzio (forgot the model no).

Also he has a lot of signature models in his Ibanez series, some of those have different pick-ups, most of them are Dimarzio's. Check out http://www.ibanez.com
