Random question! Came ot me yesterday!

Trying to practice, HOT! Pick stick to my fingers, brow dripping etc. Not a fun time and I stopped and went and sat in the garden instead!

How do you cope? As a person in the (usually) rainy and miserable UK, I do realise that some of you will live in far warmer places than I do and manage to cope! Any tips?

I tried cold beer, but my coordination suffered!

Air conditioning.

As heating is to UK winters, an affordable necessity in long humid AU summers.

It makes little difference where you are or what the temp is... it's what you are used to, IMO. I moved from humid, south Texas to dry western Montana some years ago. Summers in the new Montana place were wonderful... for a while. Today, I am sometimes uncomfortable in my house during a summer day even though its high is cooler than what I could afford to air condition the house down to in Texas.

Use what you've got as best as you can. Open the windows at night, use fans to push the cooler night air through the house. Close up your place as soon as the morning outside temperature starts warming up the interior. Block direct sunlight on the windows as best you can. Schedule your activities around the temperature as best as you can. Don't forget the fans during the day. That's what I do and it's a big help as we also have no air conditioning.

Do some long range planning. The future summers in most places are going to be warmer.

Yes that's about the cost of single splits including installation.

A/Cs whether single or multi-split or central ducted, are all inverter and reverse cycle these days, so double as heating in winter. Also quite affordable in comparison with what they cost not so very long ago. No longer a luxury really, much like climate control whch comes in new cars today. Being split systems with inverter motors deployed even for single rooms these days, they're quiet and less expensive to run too, much as most energy providers are doing their utmost to counter the latter.

Your current 'heatwave' is the extreme of UK/EU summers. Just a spike, it won't last long. Unlike cold where you can rug up though, so there's not a lot you can do for humid heat outside staying in the A/C except to endure it in the best way you can find, which usually involves something to do with application of liquid internally and externally. Other than that, it's find a friend who has A/C and go jammin' or ...'suck it up' for the duration.

Preference for heat or cold is an individual thing IME. I prefer the cold. Can tolerate dry heat at quite high temps, i.e.40C, but anywhere coastal with high humidy above 30+C sucks the life out of me. You have my empathy.

But then, maybe climate change is messing up everyone’s heat-based coping strategies? Who can say.

To be fair, the UK is experiencing an unusually hot, long summer with no rain so it's far from what we are used to.

fortunately, we do have air conditioning here. I couldn't cope without it. I am in Nebraska. For those of you in the UK , and elsewhere outside the US, that is smack dab in the center of the US. It's going to be near 100 F today and humid. It has been all week and will be the rest of the week.

So, I'm doing nothing outside with my horses. And since I'm inside I have absolutely no excuse to do anything but practice!!

If you have enough of them, you'll find out that your coordination comes right back and you're playing is awesome. I mean, others may disagree at that point but who cares when you're awesome!

hehe

Pick sticking to your fingers? I little baby powder should dry them up. Dripping sweat? Tennis headbacd a la Bjorn Borg...Just sayin'
