Hi everyone! I am new to this website. I have a friend who asked me for advice on buying a new acoustic guitar. Through scouring the "what guitar under $300" thread and various sites, I came across this one on the Guitars Report website. It's a solid spruce top acoustic-electric for $150 and I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on it. Also, here's the list I've composed so far. I was wondering if anyone could help me decide if I should add/omit anything. This is a good friend of mine and I'd really like to make solid reccommendations.

Takamine gs330s - $299
Alvarez RD20s - $239
Art & Lutherie GT - $250
Yamaha FG700s - $199
Washburn D10s - $239
Seagull S6 Entourage - $299
Ibanez Artwood AW40-NT - $299
Ovation Celebrety CSE24 Acoustic-Elec - $299

Thanks in advance

I did a review of the Fender T-Bucket a few years back. Good guitar for the money. In all, after having it for several years, still a good guitar and has nicely maintained its set-up. So, reliable.

One thing I would clarify, which I hinted at in the review; it's not a $2000 guitar. It's an inexpenseive guitar with a laminated top. It is not a super-mellow warm guitar but it has a great sound for a laminante. The body depth is a bit chubby but that does help with the sound, I feel.....Last thing; I really do not like the onboard tuner. When I did my review, I thought it was decent and it does do in a pinch bit overall....bring the Snark along.

Key is, the person playing needs to go play whatever it is they're getting. Even if to just wrap their hands around the neck and feel if the body depths is comfortable.

I got the T-Bucket to have a decent acoustic but not break the bank. It does that. I do have and have had in the past, nice guitars that weren't exactly cheap and have no fear of spending for one. I just needed something to plunk on and demo with. Nothing serious but playable.

Keep this stuff in mind when in the sub-$300 range.

I highly suggest you try a second hand seagull guitar. I learned most of my chops on an s6 original and it is a very high quality guitar in your price range.

The other thing I would suggest is that you don't think too hard about it. Play tons of guitars and buy the one that makes you want to pick it up and play it. Used guitars will give you much more bang for the buck.

Good luck,

Nathan

If you can find a used Fender DG-22S, they are one of the best budget dreadnought acoustic guitars made. Google Fender DG-22S and you will see everyone who ever bought one, thought it was worth much more than they paid for it.
I have two of them. One is a solid Spruce top with flame maple sides and bottom. The other DG-22S is a solid spruce top with ebony nat sides and bottom. The flame maple is the prefered one. Both have a great tone/presence for their price. But since they were discontinued in 2005, you may wait a short while, before one pops up on the internet. They made quite a few of them, so the wait should not be too long. I paid $180 for the new/discontinued DG-22S Spruce/Ebony Nat version from Musicians Friend in 2007. I liked it so much, I found a "mint", used DG-22S Spruce/Flame Maple version for $200, on Ebay.

Here is a Flame Maple one for sale on ebay now. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fender-DG-22S-Flamed-Maple-Dreadnaught-Acoustic-Electric-Guitar-/232062643952

Here is a used solid Spruce top/ Flame Maple sides and bottom(prefered version) Fender DG-22S for sale at Reverb. $300plus$40shipping here. https://reverb.com/item/1013692-fender-dg22s-natural?_aid=pla&pla=1&gclid=CjwKEAjw652_BRDfkebVrdOGkDISJAD0Q2RujsTAlFi9ISBzfCRXlzxT-DQK3835cW_Ni1o6VzNF2BoC9qPw_wcB

I can recommend you one of theese

I have this lag and it's pretty solid for blues, rock and especially fingerpicking.
