I highly suggest you try a second hand seagull guitar. I learned most of my chops on an s6 original and it is a very high quality guitar in your price range.

The other thing I would suggest is that you don't think too hard about it. Play tons of guitars and buy the one that makes you want to pick it up and play it. Used guitars will give you much more bang for the buck.
