Are you looking for a distortion? Solos can benefit from a number of different pedals, namely the following:

- Distortion
- Booster Pedals
- Wah Pedals

Are you just asking about what you should look for generally? Or are you after one of these specifically?

Let me know!

I should actually word my question like this, What is a good 'sound' for a guitar solo, as in what should I dial up on my amp for a good sound in a guitar solo? I don t have much experience in these kind of things, but you guys do.

That's a pretty broad question man. But you could probably narrow it down to a distortion or booster pedal.

Most of the time depending on style to get a good solo tone i have my bass all the way, mids at 1 o'clock, and treble at 4 o'clock. now i do play metal and to most this is a very weird set up an amp. the mid tone is your guitar. meaning it cuts throw "meaning you will be able to hear your self better" a band, recording, etc

There is no one definitive answer here. I encourage you try out different settings on your amp, and find the tone you like, and goes together with its musical context. You should know your gear. Then you can always easily get the tone you need.

Hey Harland...
Try finding a song or two you like in the "SONGS" list.. usually at the beginning the instructors explain their settings close to what the artist sounds were on the recording..

It depends a lot on the style of music. At the very least, I will use a volume boost. Typically I will engage my tube screamer if I'm not using it already. I will also add delay sometimes to fatten up the tone.

Something else I do a lot is on my Les Paul I'll switch to my neck pickup, especially if I'm soloing up around the 10/12th fret and up.

I should add I typically play blues based classic rock.

Maggior. I suggest a Telecaster. Then you would not need to do all that fiddling around to get that LP to sound good. Hope this helps. :)

Hi! It largely dependes on what amp you use and which channel. If you use a clean channel, you`ll need a good distortion pedal. If you use a lead channel you`ll likely need some overdrive pedal to get more sustain and punch. There are plenty of distortion and overdrive pedals. Let me know what type of tone you are looking for.
Best!

Depends on context of song. Or better yet, depends on your interruption of what emotion you are trying to convey. If you are in a setting with other instruments you might need to stand out during your solo. That could be boosting your volume. Adding Overdrive. Or using a modulation type effect.
Also either boosting the treble or mids could help cut thru during your solo.
A good rule for standing out is to make sure that you are within your instrument's tonal spectrum. Example is a bass guitar handles the low range and the guitar handles the mid range in a song. If you stay in your range/spectrum you are already standing out and just a little change in your tone (whatever effect you use) during a solo will have a great affect.
