Something else I do a lot is on my Les Paul I'll switch to my neck pickup, especially if I'm soloing up around the 10/12th fret and up.

I should add I typically play blues based classic rock.

Maggior. I suggest a Telecaster. Then you would not need to do all that fiddling around to get that LP to sound good. Hope this helps. :)
