So gibson is raising there prices for 2015.
Example: 2014 les paul standard $2648.
2015 les paul standard $3759
There probably thinking, if Prs gets that much for there guitars, so can we!. I have never played any kind of lp guitars. They are beautiful looking. Since buying my fender ,i havent picked up my Prs. Man i love that fender.
But when im ready to record i will break out my Prs.
Like the tone better. I geuss it depends on what ur playing. They both have great tones. For different thinks.

Gibson was already overpriced. So now I will definitely not be buying any of their guitars. But that's just my opinion!

This from mylespaul.com :

"The Min-ETune auto tuning system, now called “G-Force”, will be available as a standard feature on most models. All 2015 Les Paul guitars will feature a special logo to commemorate the 100th birthday of Les Paul himself; and a removable Les Paul Pick guard which requires no screws. As for the specs for the new lineup, Gibson plans to increase neck width and upgrade the nut to a brass “Zero Fret Nut”. All models will now also feature Pearloid Inlays and a thicker fingerboard – made from a piece of rosewood that is sanded, buffed, and then treated with an oil for smoother playability."

The MAP (manufacture advertised price) price rise on a LP Standard is reported to be 29%. The post from the above link calls that the most notable of the price rises possibly indicating it's the largest. Whether that makes them overpriced or not depends solely on whether the Gibson manufacturing run sells.

As we all know, there's a huge difference between list price and street price so we'll have to wait and see how Gibson's price increases actually play out. Meanwhile, there's lots of 2014s out there...Sweetwater has already started discounting theirs.

Keep watching...I've read we can expect price increases from all the major manufacturers with increasingly expensive tone wood just one of the reasons.

If someone is going to spend over $2,000 on a guitar, they'd be so much better off buying a Music Man Petrucci model lol. I would pay twice as much for one of those than any Gibson.

But that's just me.

Gibson is absolutely out of control with their prices. There was a HUGE jump in prices from 2013 to 2014. And ANOTHER one for 2015!?!?!

I am SO glad I got my 2013, otherwise I just would never have owned an LP standard. I got mine, which is an LP Standard Plus, as a demo (new condition) for ~$1900. That same guitar as a demo in a 2014 model, with the same specs as my 2013, goes for $2650!!! Say WHAT!!!!

The 2013 models were flying out of their store. I hesitated at first and missed out. Fortunately for me, more came in.

At least with the 2015, they are making improvements. I do have to say that I'm not 100% happy with the fretboard. For the cost of the guitar, it could have been a little more refined. That's being picky...the guitar plays like an absolute dream!

lol. I got a brand spanking new 2012 SG Standard for $799.00 when Gibson did the 2012 closeout during 2013! I remember looking at the $1,700.00 retail price when it first came out, chuckled hard. $799.00, ssssscore!

There's a bunch of lessons out there for those of us that believe, or sometimes believe, that guitars are/can be good investments. (guilty ;) )

Too many guitars, too many discounts, too much 'depreciation' after a new guitar is carried out of the music store. Takes a looong time for an instrument to appreciate - if ever.

Wow, that certainly is a great score!!

As others have pointed out, you really can't buy a guitar expecting it to appreciate in value or really hold it. I bought a faded Gibson LP a few years ago. I decided I wanted something more, so moved up to a LP Standard. I thought that since my faded LP was a Gibson, it should command a decent price used. Well....not really. A local shop wanted to give me about 1/3 of what it cost new, and it's in pristine condition! First I'm going to try and sell it locally, then EBay as a last resort.

I got my 2014 LP Studio Pro at a bit of discount. Enough that I can ditch the PC board and do a proper harness and a proper bridge pup to match the neck.

Waiting it out for solid colors is fine, but as prices fall the best grain/flame goes first.

Prices aren't what bothers me the most. People are free to price their wares however they like. It's the 'innovations' that drive me away. The cost in paying for a zero fret nut and a robot tuner, then paying to replace them with traditional components is wasted expense - zero value to weigh in the purchase decision.

My 2014 Studio is likely my last new Gibson.

Agreed. When they are innovations you are interested in (like locking tuners in my case), it's one thing. I purposely steered away from the robo tuning feature. I just wanted a basic guitar with nothing fancy. That's becoming harder and harder to find.

I'm with you in that I won't be buying any new Gibsons either.

I just got a Martin with ovangkol wood and I love it! They are not on Martin's website or guitar center's website. Maybe it's over prices$1,384.00 with tax but I love the sound looked all over. I looked at almost everything. The retail number at Guitar Center was $1,499.00 always rake 15% of at Guitar Center. I love the sound!

Yup, it was quite a deal! It's a nice one too! I was hoping to get an MIII cheap too but when the blowout deals hit, no extra money.

I put the Tronical Tune on my SG Standard. Huge improvement over the stock tuners. Huge improvement in sound too, the Tronical posts resonate clearer and longer than do the stock tuners. And, it's way nice being able to to re-tune verrrry quickly with a push of the button.

I just got this from Sweetwater; Gibson USA Announces Big Changes for 2015, http://www.sweetwater.com/insync/gibson-usa-announces-big-changes-for-2015/?utm_source=insync&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=insync20141003 . It's a rundown on the new features of the 2015 Gibsons. At the bottom of the article are hot links to more detailed lists of features of the various Gibson models.

This thread was about how Gibson prices are rising, which is true for some of their models. But some of the models are much cheaper now, like the 2015 Studio.
