In the past I have played mostly metal and hard rock. I was glad to see some Pantera and Megadeth in the song list. However, I am looking to expand my horizons and learn to be a more versatile guitarist. I would like to be able to jam with anybody regardless of style. Hopefully Guitar Tricks will help me down that road.
Trying out the 14-day membership, Wanted To Say Hello
Hello from New York. My name is Eric and I started playing the guitar when I was 16 years old, I'm now 33. I have had memberships at a number of popular lesson sites. I actually have nothing bad to say about any of the other sites, i enjoyed my time learning with them and may revisit them from time to time. After reading some reviews about Guitar tricks I thought I would take a test drive and see how things go. I love that Guitar Tricks has many licensed songs from many genres and costs less than other sites.

Ever heard of Rocksmith ? I bought the game in October because I was bored. Haven't played since I was 16 Retired now (hint ) . It was fantastic to learn how to play guitar again. But most of the songs in the game are not my style of music. Sounds like Rocksmith is right up your alley. I learned so much while having fun rocking with the band. Then I found Lisa on youtube and that brought me here where I can learn more my style of music I want to learn. This is a great site But Rocksmith is Super if you want to learn Metal Punk and stuff like that.
Happy Rocking

Yes I have. I recently bought the game on ps3. Was looking into buying the 2014 edition as well since it is supposed to be a great improvement. I enjoy the game, but find it easier to learn watching videos and tabs; which is why I came here. I am slowly getting used to the Rocksmith method of sight reading though and love playing it. I was very surprised/pleased to learn this game existed. I'm glad you mentioned it because it is a great game.

Not sure if you've seen it but there is a game called Guitarbots online which is similar to Rocksmith, it even works with the Rocksmith cable. The biggest problem I have with both of these games is they have some lag issues. Rocksmith isn't so bad when you run sound through the component cables into a stereo, but I haven't figured out a suitable solution for Guitarbots. Either way the games are a fun and novel way to learn guitar, they also engage the kids which is a plus for getting them interested in learning guitar. I have to say though, nothing beats seeing real hands, finger positioning, and some good old tabs (imo, other than having a proper instructor).

Interesting feedback on learning with the games, I haven't tried one yet but I imagined the lag time could be really frustrating.
