Rocksmith has been around for a while and was discussed here a couple years ago;

http://www.guitartricks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=35611&highlight=rock+smith

http://www.guitartricks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=35269&highlight=rocksmith

The Rocksmith ad immediately flashed my memory to Bobby Bare and "The All American Boy":

"I bought me a guitar a year ago,
learned how to play in a day or so..."

FYI, Bobby Bare was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame this past Sunday.
"It takes a lot of devotion and work, or maybe I should say play, because if you love it, that's what it amounts to. I haven't found any shortcuts, and I've been looking for a long time."

The gme could be a great tool to help learn how to play but I wouldn't relay on only the game to learn.

This looks like it could be fun. I see you can get it for the PC. I'd check it out, but I don't take full advantage of what I can here as it is :-).

Ask your self, how did all thoze old time blues players learn, included the one and only mr jimi Hendrix learn.yep Clapton too, they listened to the radio over and over .they had no you tube videos, how too videos ect,and i dont think they had guitar tricks lol. I am not knocking it cause i never tried it. I was always told too start with an easy song and listen too it until u can play it. There is nothing better then haven a trained ear,and that's the best way too do it. Just my opinion we all have them.peace.axe is back for the attack lol.

I checked it out an have it on order. The song choice has a few song of interest to me. The Arcade games I'll try. Maybe just for a change of pace.
But, what intrigues me is the SESSION feature.
Look like I'll be playing with my own band..LOL
You can set up a full band to play with. Drums, bass, rhythm guitar and keyboard. 75 instruments in all to chose from.
You pick the key and scale you want to play in and it show the note to play.
Here the link to the session demo in case I'm explaining it wrong.

I will give my review later. What I have read it is way better then the old Guitarsmith

That's the part that intrigued me as well. I'd really like to hear your thoughts once you've had a chance to try it out.

I got Rocksmith 2014.. Had a heck of a time getting it loaded on the laptop..
There like three different entities that want name and password. This had me totally confused. Mainly because some of my arrow keys don't function and I had to use a screen keyboard to type in info. Then kept messing up.
There are a ton of decisions to make.
First you chose your ability which I choose novice over beginner. I probably should have choose beginner.
The few game which I played were fun. They may be a bit juvinal for hard a core gamer, but may be cool for beginners. I did better on chord game then on the note game. The string are color-coded.
The Session is fascinating. You bit out effects, amp, cabinets, rack and maybe a few more. You pick out your band (four pieces, plus yourself) You pick out your key, tempo and a couple other parameter. A sliding option on the fret board for different positions.
I didn't do any notes as I went along so this is a very general review. So far to me Guitarsmith is a good practice tool. Not intuitive to me, and a lot of flipping back and forth.
One point, the Cable is well made, designed to be repaired and USB end is removable for an type computer connection. (round with keyway notch)
They claim that once you have the system set up you can log on from any computer anywhere. I don't feel it was a waste of money..
I hope this give a few pointer..
I also hope to be back as full member by Christmas

You guys keep piquing my interest. I've got so much other stuff to practice and do but still, the program's ads are intriguing. Keep us posted with the details of how Rocksmith is working out for you.

Meanwhile, here's yet another YouTube video on the program; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFqaz_0A5mY&feature=em-subs_digest-vrecs It makes it all very tempting.

Woo hoo! New format for this post/reply box with all kinds of new features!! Nice!!! Thanks GT!!!!

I'm far from a review on Guitarsmith 2014, but here are a couple youtube post that give a broader view of what the system has to offer.
I have gone to the start page and sign up as guest beginner. I would advise this if you are looking around.
I can say that it's truely a fun program, but far from being an substitute for quality lessons. And I thought I had some good caluses..
One neat thing I like is after you finish a game lesson, you can noodle around using the nearly athentic sound set up that was used in the song.
