What's up guys. I've been playing guitar for like two years. I planned on sitting down and starting right at the beginning with the online lessons but I've gotten pretty bored with the beginning ones on how to hold a pick and what not. I'm looking to improve my speed and learn to move around the guitar more. Im also very interested in learning what goes with what (how to know where to go for a lead with a rhythm, scales, and theory) I play a lot of metal and I find myself staying on the bottom strings too much, especially on my 7-string.

Here is one of my songs, this is about my speed I can carry smoothly at my current skill level. What would be some good lessons to check out and a good spot to begin?

Welcome aboard!! This is a great place to learn.

I had been playing for 30 years and thought the same as you. As I was going through some of the lessons in the blues 2 path, I found myself getting further and further over my head.

So, I decided to go way back to the beginning. Yes, some of the beginning lessons were boring, but I learned a few things and it was very worthwhile. I also found my appropriate starting point toward the end of Blues 1.

Everybody is different, but I would suggest going through from the very beginning. It's likely that you will literally just breeze through it all, but you may pick up a thing or two along the way.

I don't have any lesson recommendations for you, I just wanted to say that I liked your song that you posted. The mix seemed a bit off, and the drums were a little too busy for my taste at times, but in terms of the guitar, I think you have some really sonically interesting ideas... sounds like you have a good ear. I liked the part around 1:30 where the music was very tight.. that sounded great. Sounds like you have a good ear.

I'd look into gaining a complete understanding of modes, and probably "three-note-per-string" scale patterns which lend themselves to speed riffs. Don't make it all about speed though... that slowed down atmospheric style you have at times is really cool.

Thanks man thats good to hear and I'm sure my mix is off a bit because I'm far from a pro at production. Sadly everything I do is by ear because I know nothing of theory or even the notes on the fretboard really. I know where octaves are and what the strings are but that's about it. If I think about it I can figure it out but I can't just tell what something is if you were to point at a fret. I would like be a happy medium between the two. And I hear ya about the drums, I have a hard time toning them down because I love when a drummer is all over his kit but not everyone does. I'm into progressive music so that's what I like to try to push for.

This is my bestfriend who is really talented. This is sort of the type of thing I'm aiming for as time goes on but that's way down the road. For now I'm going to try these lessons and get more comfortable moving around the guitar. You might really enjoy his music though because he usually comes up with some really creative ideas. He might not be the greatest player or anything but he's one hell of a composer.

And for just raw insanity playing here's a good one lol
