I liked the part around 1:30 where the music was very tight.. that sounded great. Sounds like you have a good ear.

I'd look into gaining a complete understanding of modes, and probably "three-note-per-string" scale patterns which lend themselves to speed riffs. Don't make it all about speed though... that slowed down atmospheric style you have at times is really cool.

Thanks man thats good to hear and I'm sure my mix is off a bit because I'm far from a pro at production. Sadly everything I do is by ear because I know nothing of theory or even the notes on the fretboard really. I know where octaves are and what the strings are but that's about it. If I think about it I can figure it out but I can't just tell what something is if you were to point at a fret. I would like be a happy medium between the two. And I hear ya about the drums, I have a hard time toning them down because I love when a drummer is all over his kit but not everyone does. I'm into progressive music so that's what I like to try to push for.

This is my bestfriend who is really talented. This is sort of the type of thing I'm aiming for as time goes on but that's way down the road. For now I'm going to try these lessons and get more comfortable moving around the guitar. You might really enjoy his music though because he usually comes up with some really creative ideas. He might not be the greatest player or anything but he's one hell of a composer.
