There is good music out there that I listen to(Strokes, White Stripes, Oasis) that is on TV but most modern bands/performers that I like Ive found by digging around and taking chances in the record shop.

Also, you people want to know why Ozzy has been so big
even though i agree that he cant sing
Everybody ikes him because he has that voice
its not like the end of the world screech or
a girly girl voice, its that voice that gets stuck in
you head even if you dont like him
thats why so many people like him, they cant stand him
but they like him
You should know what i mean, or your stupid

hey ozzy can definately write music, and he can write
lyrics, i dunno what some of you are talking about

hold on, singing is a very vauge talent... You can be an "impassioned" singer if you miss more notes than hit in a dramatic over the top piece, for example, you can be "sincire" by souding like a drunk with a blocked nose (eg neil young, dont get me wrong, i love the guy's voice)..
Ozzy in my book is great singer, because he can put some kind of .... I dont know how to describe it, but you get the impression that he's singing with such a passion at times, and it works with the music and lyrics..
There's LOADS of great new music... There are lot MTV stepping stone bands, but who are we to call them that? It may not sound good to us... doesn't mean it's bad.
what get's on my goat, is generalisation... SOAD for example are possibly the best heavy band i've heard... Yet because they're surounded by Limp bizkit, Korn etc etc, they're considered trashy mainstream thrash rock... I mean Their last album i'm not so sure of on the whole, But the first album was great (self titled), and even on this album there are some great songs like "forest" and "ariels", with some of the best lyrics on thier first album.
I'm some one who cannot stand CHEESE, that's why i really dont like GnR and Eddie VAn H etc, there maybe great music underneath it all, but to me it lacks humanity...
Genesis, is the best example i can think of.... Absoloute cheesy pop, but if you listen to the melodies, they're very catchy and very good, but still the songs sound bad becuase they sound cheesy. I'm definetly going to have to start transcribing their stuff onto guitar (from cheesy synths with echo and chorus)...

I don't really like you either. And I'm not sure where you get the impression I think Ozzy isn't anything but a rocker. I love Ozzy. Get your facts straight dude, I never bashed Ozzy.

I bashed Ozzy.

I love his voice, but he's a horrible singer. Horrible, but likeable.

lol. Got to be the best thing I have read here today. I know this will sound wierd, but has anyone ever read those children's books about a girl called Elouise, who live sin the Plaza in New York? I think they are very funny (sort of children's boooks designed to make the parents laugh) because she is a complete brat, and very precocious. She goes around saying things like "here are things I like doing with tissue boxes: making hats" etc. Sorry, i might sound like a dork here, but I was reminded by that post, very funny.

I dont' agree with what you were saying: All music comes from older music. What is today's music is actually yesterday's music. If it was good once, it is good now.
(just not fassionable).

You say "live in the now," I say "live it all."

ok so u dont agree wit me. i really dont care if u do. but the fact of the matter is: i dont really care..lol but any way ..yes SOAD is a very progressive band and i agree they are prety good as far as im concerned. i really didnt know anyone here even listened to newer music. it seems like all u guys do is listen to ozzi and def lep so u dont know what the heck im even talkin about. anyways Take my advice: listen to the whole cd before u cut down the newer bands. What they play on the radio is very little of the bands true talent

Zepplin: hmmm... maybe, I'm not dissing them, quite the opposite... I've not really heard much or anything really pre phil collins... intresting point... Cos they do have some great melodies, sadly with cheesy synths (in my oppionion anyway).

Phil Collins is a legend. Great drummer. His drummer he got when he went solo singing was even better.

Try:
7 Year Bitch, Abraham's Meat Plow, Alice in Chains, A.C., Ben Folds Five, Ben Harper, Billy Joel, Black Sabbath, Blinded by Willie, Blueprint for Disaster, Bruce, Buckethead, Buddy Guy, Burnt by the Sun, Cave In, Charlie Hunter, Cistine, Clutch, Col. Les Claypool's Fearless Flying Frog Brigade, Faith No More, Fishbone, Five Horse Johnson, Five Iron Frenzy, Frank Zappa, Fu Manchu, The Gin Blossoms, Goldfinger, Goratory, Incubus, Jaco Pastorius, Jera Storm, Jim's Big Ego, Joe Walsh, John Prine, Johnny Cash, Konnichi Wa, Laundry, Les Claypool, Moe., Morphine, Mr. Bungle, Nina Gordon, Pantera, Possessed, PRIMUS!, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rolling Buck 7, Sam Black Church, Sausage, Scissorfight, Seth Wright, Snaggle Tooth, Soundgarden, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Stone Temple Pilots, Symphony X, SOAD, Taj Mahal, The B-52's, The James Gang, The Reactors, The Refreshments, The Urge, Tom Waits, Trailor Thrash, Veruca Salt, and Ween.

The next time I go to a record store I plan to walk out with some James Brown, some Iron Maiden, more Johnny Cash, and maybe some P-Funk.

I actually listen to a lot of other stuff that isn't in my iTunes library or I don't like enough to type out. Let's just say that said library can play for over three days and not repeat a single song.

Now it seems like we're all into classic stuff because that's what this thread is more or less about. The fact is that we have a very wide variety of musicians here, and an incredible variety of styles are represented on these forums.

haha yeah i've never heard almost any of thse bands songs. But i will give u some props because chilipeppers, SOAD, Stone Temple Pilots, and especially Soundgarden are awsome bands. they arent too old for me in my book. But i could have swore that the B-52's were for teenage women like 18 years ago? lol not for a guy like u.

The B-52s were an art-rock band that got picked up by the wrong crowd. They had good songs, a weird persepctive on this world, and are a lot easier to appreciate now that they aren't on the radio all the time.

Similarly, Reel Big Fish might actually get some credit for what they're trying to say in a few years.

What's even remotely political about "Alternative Girl" or "Thank You for Not Moshing?"

Or any RBF for that matter.

They went SO far over people's heads.

On the more political side of things, Fishbone rules. Chim Chim's Badass Revenge is one of those must have albums of the century.

Van Halen and Randy Rhoads are guitar gods. Most guitarist now and days ain't even close to the league Van Halen and Rhoads are in. It is sad that no one is playing solos no more. That makes me mad. Only a few bands have solos. And oh yeah i dont like rap!

(and hopefuly few reasons will be given in the feature)...
