hold on, singing is a very vauge talent... You can be an "impassioned" singer if you miss more notes than hit in a dramatic over the top piece, for example, you can be "sincire" by souding like a drunk with a blocked nose (eg neil young, dont get me wrong, i love the guy's voice)..
Ozzy in my book is great singer, because he can put some kind of .... I dont know how to describe it, but you get the impression that he's singing with such a passion at times, and it works with the music and lyrics..
There's LOADS of great new music... There are lot MTV stepping stone bands, but who are we to call them that? It may not sound good to us... doesn't mean it's bad.
what get's on my goat, is generalisation... SOAD for example are possibly the best heavy band i've heard... Yet because they're surounded by Limp bizkit, Korn etc etc, they're considered trashy mainstream thrash rock... I mean Their last album i'm not so sure of on the whole, But the first album was great (self titled), and even on this album there are some great songs like "forest" and "ariels", with some of the best lyrics on thier first album.
I'm some one who cannot stand CHEESE, that's why i really dont like GnR and Eddie VAn H etc, there maybe great music underneath it all, but to me it lacks humanity...
Genesis, is the best example i can think of.... Absoloute cheesy pop, but if you listen to the melodies, they're very catchy and very good, but still the songs sound bad becuase they sound cheesy. I'm definetly going to have to start transcribing their stuff onto guitar (from cheesy synths with echo and chorus)...
