ok everybody listen up, I dont know eho the hell anybody is but that really doesnt matter does it. Why do people say that old rock sucks? Maybe cause they only know chords and all they can do is make songs from that. When you listen to Van Halen, compare it up to a new age band. If you cant find a song that you say isnt any good, WHICH YOU WONT, try listening to old Ozzy with Randy Rhoads. Randy Rhoads and Eddie Van Halen have got to be some of the worlds best guitarist ever. Eddies killer tapping and Rhoads never ending scales, its wild. Well i just want to say that all you who say old rock sucks, KISS MY A$$(which is an awesome song by the Nuge)

what pisses me off is rap
lets say some words and try to make money from it
it is sad, what is this world coming to

*yawns*

Band-bashing is childish, no matter what decade they are from.

We sholdn't be too harsh on him. Maybe he was woken up out of a perfectly good drunken slumber by an earthquake too.

Ya know?

I agree. Although my heart still lies in the rock and roll of the 70's and that's what still floors me to this day, bashing the new bands is futile. Hey! they're selling records or I guess it's c.d's now..whew! am I ever dating myself, plus they can't help it if most of the good riffs have already been done. I mean try writing a song with one
good original hook that hasn't been done and then look back at Edgar Winter's "Frankenstein" with more hooks and riffs than most albums have. Well that about wraps it up for me.
hav'um good day.....grog go now

hey did i mention that i am only 15
and that old music is for old people
cause the best rock ever made was from the:
late 60s 70s and early 80s
these songs really want to make you play hard
and play awesomely and become the best guitarist ever known like a eddie van halen or randy rhoads

lol, Christoph.
I thought you were 46 myself...
Bashing bands is as important to the creation of an identity as liking other bands, so it's not surprising that people do it here all the time. Oh well, people get over it.

PS. Bryan Ferry Sux (actually, I sort of mean that).

1952?
So you're a real veteran.
thats cool.
Who is the oldest (ok not oldest, "most experienced" :))
in here by the way?

Anyway, you (vanrhoads) seem to hate people that
thinks that old rock sucks.
Well you do exactly the same thing.
You say the new rock isnt nearly as good as
ozzy, van halen etc etc.
Maybe you dont think so, but there are many that does.
They will probably say the exact same thing about old rock,
and they probably hate you as much as you hate them.
So this discussion isnt going anywhere, so drop it.

Be more tolerant, and you will find that
new doors will open.

lol...
Band bashing is terrible... i hate (not ofence vanroahds or whoever you are) poeple who say X suck! and Y rules!
I can get on with poeple who say, that certain bands music is a little thin, because it reliese on cool little guitar lines and LOTS of echo... or that their failure to explore other muisical routes, etc etc.
I dont mind poeple like that with some kinda half way decent argument. And to be fair, it's pretty entertaining to talk about why I dont like pearl jam yet like nirvana, why i like the kinks more than the beatles, or those great 80's bands that didn't use cheesy guitar lines, or use really really really cheese synths.
Anyhoo, welcome aboard new member.

WHAT'S UP PEOPLE!
New guy here, so take it easy on me.NOT.lol...anyway, unfortuatly I have to agree (even though this guy was a douche-bag), about the new music today. If it weren't for groups like Disturbed, Godsmack, Flaw (from my hometown), and a few more like them , I would probably wear out all my old tapes and cds. Although I am not a fan of "drop D tuning", I think it did bring a freshness to rock. All I had been hearing is mopey, whiny, just got lucky to have a record deal, music. I do have a bad habit of bashing it, but I am probably just jealous. My music career went nowhere and now with the pain in my fingers, wrists, joints, I realize that I will probably never be able to dislodge these bands from the charts. I do continue to write and play (in pain) and will do so for as long as I can. I like all kinds of music and do realize that it seems like everything has already been done and recycled over and over.
Just remember how long the blues has been around, and you will realize that music can be refreshed without sounding like everything else that is coming out. Don't follow the pack...be the leader (top dog), in the pack...where would guitar playing stopped if not for Frank Zappa, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, ect.....I wouldn't want to think about it...thanks for your time.

why should i give up?
have you ever listened to a new age song then compared it to
a song like hots for teacher by van halen?
have you ever compared a concert in the new age with one
in 70s 80s
they are so boring nowadays, ive been to a van halen, kiss, cheaptrick, skid row and soon another van halen cocert.
people there get into ot they are jumping up and down
going crazy, the whole band is playing the hell out of there instrument.
then the new age everbody stands still and goes
yay......wheres the food?

I wouldnt usually add to a so called ´Band Bashing´ thread coz like u all said it gets tiresome, but i thought i oughta say this.....I used to be really into dissing bands i didnt like all over the internet and i was well know for bringing up such topics with my friends, but now I find that on a daily basis I find myself myself listening to bands I used to say sucked....I was alive and listening to the charts when songs from Metallica´s black album were on it and i used to turn off the radio till the song was finished.....a few years later and KH is at the top of my inspiration list......thats one of many examples.....so no offense Vanrhoads but try and be open minded....consider that your taste is bound to change the more you get into the world of the guitar....if you are only 15 you got years ahead of you for this to happen.....trust me i know, ive only been playing for 5 years and at the start i would never have imagined myself being where I am now.

Good luck, chacron.

Like Christoph said, this has been discussed in hundreds of different threads on this forum so far, so people kind of get tired of hearing about how todays music scene is crap. Personally I don't have very much respect for much of the bands that are making it big now, but in my years at this forum I've gradually come to accept that instead of bashing a band, you should critique it. It's ok if you don't like it, but don't generalize by saying its crap. Try and find something interesting in it, because it will make YOU a better musician in the end.

I went a punk concert last night (I really, really don't like punk and my ears are still ringing), and experiencing this form of music can only make me a better musician. For instance, I learned that a good punk player can play DAMN fast. Not single string blurs like artists of my preferred style, but palm-muted, low string "chunking" type of stuff. It impressed me. I thought "Man, if I showed this guy some stuff he could be a vicious shredder".

Moral of the story, be mature about it. You don't have to embrace the new scene but try and learn from it.
