Hi. I'm new.
I just watched a Andy Gurley clip. He was playing a G chord then a C chord. The C chord had a shape I've not seen before. It looked like a G chord only moved to d 2nd fret, a third fret, b third fret and e third fret. Is that right?

Sounds like a Cadd9 chord. This is a very common chord move - G to Cadd9. The 3rd fret of the B string is a D note, which is the 9 of C.

Thank-you so much! You are right. Nice chord. Can it be used to substitute for C major?
It makes a nice transition from G to C.

Yes, you can often use it instead of C major. You will of course alter the sound a bit, and sometimes it may sound out of place - especially if all the other chords are standard "cowboy chords" with no embellishments or extensions (like the 9 note in Cadd9).

Just use your ears and you'll be fine. :)
