should I continue?
Hey everyone. My name is Ken and I wonder if anyone else is having the same problem as I am. I had a group back in the late 60's and play pretty good. Now I'm 60 and had the the overwheming desire to pick my guitar back up and play. My problem is I can't play anymore. Sure I can play old stuff but I can't seem to get past that and get better at playing and pick up my speed. Everything is so overwheming to me. Any suggestions other then hanging it up. I really love to play. Thanks

Are you having fun? If so, then there is no reason to stop. Are you in a hurry to learn something or build your speed back up? Have you set yourself some goals? Maybe you've set your immediate goals up too high.
Last year at age 41, I picked the guitar up for the guitar up for the first time. I've asked myself why? Most likely you'll never play in a big arena, you'll likely never be famous, you've missed the boat on all the hotties swarming the back stage. So, why do it. All I can tell myself is, because it's fun and I have a kick asstime doing it.
Don't give up, just have fun with it. If something comes of it, great, if not, well nothing lost right?

Gotta agree with Rick. Same story here. Didn't pick up the guitar for the first time until I was in my mid-40's. Just relax and enjoy it. When it's no longer fun, then stop. But if you've got the jones to do it again, my bet is that it will always be fun, right?

If you love to play then the answer is right there, it would be a real shame to push away that urge to play. Even though you may never reach your former playing level there's still plenty in there to keep the desire to play alive, just be realistic about what you're hoping to get out of it. Once you get back into it you may just hit a previously untapped seam of creativity, you never know!
I keep coming back for more even though I sometimes find it tough going because to not play just wouldn't sit easy with me.
Having been in a band in the 60's you've got some great history, kudos to you there. I'm sure you can keep on getting a buzz out of it for many years.
All the best.

I've been mostly a beginner for about 35 years now... at least that is the way I feel. I put the guitar down sometimes for months but always come back to it.
I get frustrated trying to master something way beyond my level and will stick with it longer if I'm just having fun.

I play a cheap electric guitar.

I played in several bands in the 70's, got married and had a family, and played very little for about 20 years. I decided about 3 years ago to pick it up again. I'm 49 now and the main thing I have noticed is that it just takes longer to learn new stuff than it did in my teens. Its still just as fun though and there's always something to challenge me. It's my favorite hobby and number 1 stress reliever

I may be young to pick up the guitar at 35, but I already got one hottie after me and that's all I need! ;-)
It's better to regret something that you have done than something you haven't.

No way...
- practice practice practice .. practice slowly....
pick a song . .play it slow slow slow. work on the feeling....
- practice hammer ons and pull offs. Again slow and steady wins the race. Use all your fingers on your left hand. Then speed things up. Practice!!
- record yourself playing something that you feel you are having problems with then put it on the shelf for 2 weeks.
- practice practice practice
- wait 2 weeks re-record the piece you were having problems with. Listen to before and after recordings .... you'll be amazed !!
- if your having problems figuring how new songs there are lots of good sheet music or tabs
DONT GIVE UP!!! YOU CAN DO IT.. HAVE FUN WITH IT !!!!!
send us an mp3 of your playing !!!!
