Ibanez S series
I'm looking to buy a new guitar and was wondering what you guys think about the S series. I was looking at one today, it felt nice. What kind of pickups are in them? I was looking at one that wask ind of chestnut in colour, the model name started with an S, like spider or something.

bump! Come on guys, surely one of thousands of people who frequent this site must have had some experience with either the Saber or RG series!

The Rg and S series are pretty nice for the money. Though, I do not like the stock pickups Ibanez puts in them at all.
Also, if you'd get one with a Floyd Rose style trem, get either the edge or lo-pro edge trem.

I have an Ibanez RG. I really like it...but like trendkillah said...I don't like the pickups in it either. I actually had a question about them my self...I don't have much experience with Ibanez...and the one I have was a gift. Are all Ibanez's heavy like the RG series? I like a light guitar...what do you guys think would be the best?
Practice...Practice...PRACTICE!!!! It really does make perfect. :)

The Saber has a really thin body and its weight reflects this (translation, it's damn light!!). Some say that the tone suffers because of this. To tell you the truth I can't tell the difference, I guess my ear just isn't that developed yet.

I've got an RG270 and an RG7321, and I don't know if it is cause the 7321 doesn't have a floyd rose style trem, but it is a lot lighter. So, I guess it depends on the model.

I don't know anything about all that technical crap, but I have an S470. All around it's a great guitar. The only thing I don't like about it is the whammy bar. It has this screw-on thing that always gets loose.
Anyway, I would highly recommend it for any serious jazz or rock player.

i got an Ibanez S1540FM Custom.. this got great stockpickups(QM1 and 2 and QMS1).. the neck is wonderful, and the body is light and thin. but if u're getting an ibanez, i would recomend to buy one 500-series or over.. because the ones under are made in Korea on the Samick's factory, and they comes with a LO-TRS(I/II) whammybar.. It's a huge step between the Lo-Pro Edge/ original Edge and the Lo-TRS in the matter of stability.. btw.. the V pickups are ok.. but not great.. i would replace thoose with eiter DiMarzio Evolutions, EMG81/85 or Seymore Duncan Screamin Demon(which don't have that high output.. but got an incredible sound)..
I like the S-series better then the RGs.. but the RGs got 24 fretz.. so it's a matter of need and taste..
BTW, u should check out ESP and Jackson guitars.. and if u really want a guitar.. Vigier...

hey Acron!! It's StringDancer from gw... you probably don't remember, but we were talking via email a while back, about MIDI and about how I loved New Horizon and Permenant Green? So you use a Saber huh? Well that's a strong selling point
Chris you say it's good for jazz? That's funny it would seem to be the opposite of a jazz guitar; a small, solid body electric. But if it is, all the better!

Sorry I took so long to reply to this, haven't checked this forum out for a few days.
Anyways Ibanez makes a very large selection of feels/weights/styles/sounds in guitars, so really you can't stereotype the company. And yes, Ibanez makes some very sweet jazz guitars...just go to their website and take a look around.
What do I think about the S series? Seeing as I am and always have been a die hard Ibanez fan, I like the whole series. For specifics, I love the feel as does just about everyone that has ever picked one up and played it. I can't say much about the sound of the S series becuase I've never played one plugged into an amp, but I think that the Ibanez website awhile ago (not the current one) had a note about the series that the widest variety of guitarists bought them out of all their models. Metal, ska, blues, jazz, punk, classical, you name it. And don't let the fact that they are small solid bodied guitars fool you into thinking anything wrong. The general rule of thumb is that all guitar designers are incredibly good at their job and if they want to make any guitar sound like anything they can probably do it. You ever see a photo of that custom guitar from Robin guitars, I think it was, that was shaped and painted like a double bladed battle axe yet was designed for classical music? Yeah. Thats what I'm talking about.

guys i play ibanez and ibanez only
and i feel that its one brand which fulfills the value for money and at the same time gives you the rigt sound and feel
i cant get away with it because that is the only guitar i think that i can produce my kind of sounds

James, I agree with Guitarking and Blackrose. The first guitar I had was some piece of crap Fender, but when I tried out my friend's Ibanez I knew that it was the brand for me.
The S-series was designed to be a small, lightweight, solid-body guitar with jazz quality tone. From what I've experienced so far, they acheived their goal.

jazz-quality???
i would say it's a guitar that allow u to play anything what u desire.. from Blackmetal to rock to blues to jazz to classical... and this was the goal Ibanez set when they started making the S-series.. btw.. it's really close to the JS-guitars.. but a bit lighter.. and thinner..

well.....ibanez guitars r kinda good....like the rest, the onli thing lacking r its pickups....u could buy a S series and change the pickups later....thats would be a good choice....but the S series has it's downturn.....it has a light body thus lacking in sustain and a solid tone for jazz.....but its quite good for progressive rock and other nicknacks.....the pickups lack sensitivity and power.....it would be good to change after awhile and stock up on other better ones....
well the S series is good since it offers close to what it was aimed to do....but 4 the price.....i would say much on that....luv & peace

Thats one thing I have noticed...no matter what pickups come on a guitar there will always be someone who is less than satisfied with them. For playing guitar being so individual there sure are a bunch of things that never change.
