ok, i dont know if youre talking an electric or acoustic; if you're talking acoustic this obviously isnt a help so ignore it. But if youre looking for something under $300, with amp included, id actually suggest the Fender starter kit; its a decent guitar, amp included with all the cables, etc. for closer to $200. Its nothing extravagent, and its not a BC Rich, but its a great learning guitar. Its worth checking out. Hope it helps.

I really wouldn't recommend a BC Rich guitar... They're dumb shapes, and are near on impossible to play sat down. I always recommend the fender squires as first electrics. If you really must, a BC Rich might be better as a second guitar - and perhaps go for a higher spec one too if that's the decsion you make in the future.
I wouldn't go for the pack though - you can get a better amp for the money...

I agree about not getting BC Rich - the very high end sig models are ok but they are only for playing live. Try playing one sitting down and you won't be able to do and if you do teach yourself how you will have a very weird technique!

i used to know some one who had the cheapest model warlock they make, and that thing was a peice of crap. not only was it odd shaped and undomfortable to play but the pickup sounded like crap and the thing wouldnt stay in tune at all. i have played on the higher price one and it does play a lot better but its a lot more money.
right now since your just learning look isnt important. you want a guitar that playes well is comfortable and sounds ok. save the looks for your first club gig.
there are a few companys that make good cheap electrics that make great guitars to start out with. ibanez makes a few squire makes some ok ones. i think peavey makes some. and epiphone makes a good lp for cheap. be sure to remember these guitars arent super quality but they will get you going.
as for amps id recommend the same amp i have. its a vox ac-30 its a 30 valvetronix amp but i paid about $250 american for it. it has amp model for classic vox amp sounds good and will sound clear as a bell even over a noisy drummer. so you wont need to run out a replace it in a year.(unless you want to)

They say the END is near, but I'm Tired of waiting.

Would recommend looking at a second hand guitar as for $300 you could find a decent guitar that will perform much better than a brand new one of a lesser model/make. Also when you improve this guitar will still be good enough for you whereas a cheaper model won't sound as good and you will likely have to replace it sooner in order to get the performance you require.
Try looking in a few local guitar shops, most of them will have second hand guitars and will give you advice as what is best for you.

For $300 you can find a really nice used Mexican Strat or Tele. and have a good guitar that's worth upgrading as needed...

I would recommend practically any Ibanez guitar in the sub $300 range, but I would highly recommend the Dean Vendetta (I think it's called) for about $79. It looks cooler and sounds better than one of those cheap Squire's. It's a strat shape, but without that goofy looking pick guard, and at this price, you'll know if you really want to buy a more expensive guitar later down the road. Yamaha also makes good, attractive, inexpensive guitars.

I play a Dean Vendetta 4, If the 4 is anything like the entire line of vendettas I vouch for it being an awesome guitar - after playing one, I will always look for a dean if I ever need another.

We began electric guitar with a black IBANEZ GRG170.For about 230 euros. With 2 humbuckers + 1 simple coil, a vibrato, it's a good guitar for beginning. Very nice with shark teeth. And it is not a low quality guitar.

I will suggest you have a look around ebay for getting price comparisons. There are a lot of listings.

For that amount of money you cannot beat a fender squire stratocaster

My first ever guitar was a BC Rich Warlock i picked up at a garage sale. Just picture a 70-pound white kid with glasses carrying around that pointy piece of crap... I couldn't tell whether I'd bought a guitar or some sort of primitive hunting tool. All I knew was that I could make horrendous noises on it and inflict minor puncture wounds on everything within a 10-foot radius. It disappeared one day, and my parents said they gave it away to a nice farm family, but I still have the feeling they had it put to sleep. Long story short... BC Rich's are usually pretty bad, ESPECIALLY second hand ones. There are exceptions to this, of course, but I think I've heard more complaints about BC's than any other non-starter guitar.
