I love all metallicas songs but i admit it took me awhile to warm up to st anger, but now, the song called The Unamed Feeling, is one of my favorites, also after watching the videos dvd, i reallly enjoy st anger disc, it truley is ahead of its time, right now im really into System OF A Downs toxicity album, it has lot of DRUMMING first... thats the phrase im coining" DRUMS FIRST" listen to the song needles from SOAD, the drums are obnoxious like st anger but im tottaly diiging itt>>>>>>>

Kill'em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets (in my opinion their best over all album). They had some good songs outside of those (fuel, others have been mentioned).

I heard St. Anger once, it was my friends cd, after about fifteen minutes I opened his car window and chucked it at a crowd of people (hoping it would kill them and there by save them from hearing it, ever) all it did was flop around and land in a gutter. It was so not metal...

That can happen when you use trash can lids instead of drums, St. Anger is Terrible :(

1st.... chill out.

2nd.... these are opinions. If you're this easily offended by opinions then I would suggest that you forget about going on ANY forums on the internet... This forum is about the best one you're going to find as far as the willingness to accept opinions go...

3rd.... St. Anger was a horrible album........... I pretty sure that's the general consensus anywhere you go aside from a few hard headed Metallica fans. As I said in my post in this thread... The songs sounded AWESOME when they did them live but they sound like shhh on the album.

4th.... In a perfect world good would exist without the bad, light without dark, good without evil, life without death... so on, so on.... If you're going to want to talk just about the good things, you're a naive human being.

I, for one, am excited about their new album and more excited that Bob Rock is not producing it.

I have an question that i think may fit this thread.

Why do some people say Metallica wasn't metal after Puppets I mean i can sorta understand being hesitant about the black album and the load albums but seriously why do these people not consider ...and justice for all metal? I'm stumped here because I always considered that their heaviest album.

Can someone shed some light on this it's really been bugging me.

I don't think I'd consider AJFA thrash in the sense of the way they had been doing things. But that album is most definitely metal.

I don't fully understand that either - like you, I've always thought of AJFA as the most intense and aggressive album they ever made. Like Grizzly said, I think a lot of people don't listen to it because the lyrics and the song structure were so different from those on the first three albums, rather than because they think it's not metal enough. Personally, I really like the approach they took to AJFA.

Yeah AJFA was awesome. My second favorite of theres to Kill Em All. That album could make me bang my head off of stuff, and not because its bad, but the energy it produces. But AJFA had some great stuff. "One" itself is reason enough to buy the album.

When a band gains recognition from a signature sound or style, it becomes what their original fans relate them to. If the band matures or tries something new and the sound changes enough to shock the original followers, they consider the Band to have "Sold Out" from it's roots to become "Mainstream". Even though the Band may sound awesome as it matures and increases it's fanbase 10 times over, the negative response is usually generated by the original fans who spread their opinion about the once known "Garage band" to now "Superstar" status they achieved by "selling out".

To build an Empire the Caliper of Metallica, the music has to be really good for it's majority fanbase, or they would crumble. Nevertheless, the minority will always voice their opinion even though most will never create anything close by comparisan through their lifetime.

The band U2 got blasted by many Christian fans after they released "Joshua Tree", claiming they had strayed from their roots to gain success and this will ultimately destroy them. The majority obviously didn't agree.

Right on man, it's cool. Glad you understand where I was coming from and didn't take it as an "attack" of any kind. Just trying to help keep GT being the great place that it is!!

Metallica rocks and their new album should serve up some well needed redemption... hopefully

I hope your not being sarcastic, because funny enough I think "Mama said" is one of the best country songs I've yet herd from ANY band.

There probably won't be much support with me on this one though.

And if you are being sarcastic go wank to some of your mindless hardcore crap.
(but thats only if your being sarcastic, otherwise good point alucard0941) :)

actually no, I wasnt jokling. But it wasnt exactly a serious post. James has real potential to sing country songs. Hes not really metal anymore cause his voice isnt thrashy anymore. I also think voice wise, Load and Re-Load were the best albums displaying his talent. Pre black album is just shouting with roaring guitar...cool, but boring. Metallica's later material, before Sh*t Anger, had so much attitude. It just grabs you by the balls and never lets go. People just tend to hate it cause it doesnt have guitar solos or speed metal riffs.

I agree - they had so much more diversity in their songwriting during the "Load/Reload" years. Which is not to say they couldn't do chunky riffs anymore - just listen to "Fuel" or "I Disappear".
