Help me out here guys. If anyone had similar problem? The volume knob on my Ibanez is really loose. There is this tiny little nut between the guitar body and a knob. It is what holds it firm. However, the space betwen the Body and the knob
is way too small to get a wrench or any type of tool in between and tighten the nut. Now what? Should i open the back of the guitar and try to fix it by myself?
If so, how will that look like? Never opened a guitar before. Or should i just take it to the luthier? (By the way, I don"t trust those guys. They always rip you off. If possible, I will rather fix it by myself.) Someone?

You'll have to take the knob off to get to the nut. It will either have a small allen screw in the side of the knob, or it will simply pop off (like a strat knob). I would guess it has an allen screw, in which case you would use the appropriate size allen wrench to unscrew it and remove the knob.

I'm not really familiar with the knobs on Ibanez guitars, so I'm not sure which one yours has. Just make sure you don't go trying to pry the knob off if it does have an allen screw... :D

No screws. But it still won"t come off. And, get this; i tried the tone knob, it got of real easily. But it doesn"t come of in any position... when it is turned about half way. Tried turning the volume knob, but no luck.

What model Ibanez do you have? Is it one of the strat-type? Are the knobs similar to strat knobs (with a flange and numbers on them)? If so, they are sometimes hard to get off - worst case scenario, you can wedge a small screwdriver under the bottom of the knob and pry up as you are turning the knob and it will eventually pop off. However, in doing this, you risk breaking the knob or scratching up the body/pickguard - though if you are careful, it shouldn't be a problem...

GSA 60. Yeah. it looks a bit like strat. No marks on knobs, though. And no pickuard... Hehe, had a bit to drink now. I shall try it tomorrow and let you know how it went. Thanks, man. ;)

Won"t come off. If I use a bit more force, is there a posibility that I will break something? I am not known to have a light touch. Working hands, these are. Bit afraid of breaking something. Don"t get it though. The tone knob came off so easily.

On all the Ibanez guitars I have (and it's quite a few!), the volume and tone knobs just pull off.

It's all metal, so it shouldn't break easily but I guess if they are seized and you are very strong I guess it's possible.

Could you get some WD-40 (oil in an aerosol can) into it or something?

Yeah I know you are an ibanez junkie... ;) Great plus in my eyes, that is.
I gues I could spray it with WD-40. You sure it won"t harm the pickups or lack on body?

Is the shaft that the tone knob was on made of metal? If so, pry away - you shouldn't hurt anything. A little WD-40 wouldn't hurt though. I would suggest holding the guitar face down and spraying a tiny bit onto the bottom of the knob - then it should run down between the shaft and knob.

Dave has covered it - maybe you can get a flat-blade screwdriver between the nut and the knob ( ), and lever it off without damaging the guitar? WD40 is OK going on, but makes it hard to refinish if it gets on the body, and it doesn't like glue.

Just use very little, and you'll be fine...

Thank you, oh thank you idols of mine. ;) I have put a screwdriver between the body and a knob and it came right off. Funny thing, I tried pulling it with my bare hand to the point i heard some squealing sound, even tried it with pliers (put a cotton rag round the knob) and no luck. And then i put the screwdriver between, gave it a pop, and voila! :) Thanks fellas. Next time you are in Croatia, beers are on me. ;) Never did took the knob off before. Now I will know.

I was worried about what might happen when you tried to lever apart knob and nut...

Could have been bad ....

I've decided that popping the volume knob off at the end of a song is awesome, and I am planning on shooting mine into the audience at the end of our show. It's surprising how far I can shoot it sometimes.
