How do you guys do this??

Do you download the backing, record over it & then upload..or play the backing online & record over it online??

A couple of files I've listened to have the backing dominating the solos...how does this happen & why?

What's the best way to have a go? What hardware do I need?

TIA
Robbo

You can download this month's backing track from the Soundclick music page of our very own Magicninja (http://www.soundclick.com/magicninja).
"It's all folk music... I ain't never heard no horse sing!"
- Attributed variously to Leadbelly and Louis Armstrong

If at first you don't succeed, you are obviously not Chuck Norris.

yeah, that one!

download it, then upload it into your recording software (if you don't have one, you can download audacity or kristal for free) and then either using a mic infront of your amp, or plugging in direct to your soundcard, record over-top of the backing. some people have the backing dominating because it's alot harder to control your volume using a mic, so I recommend recording direct for now until you have decent enough gear to accomodate mic recording.

I have my Guitar->Line6 Spider II 15 direct->Roland VS 880 multitrack Recorder->M-audio Audiophile 2496 Soundcard->Cakewalk Music Creator Pro.

All the recording stuff was about $500 all together. Then my PC of course. It just goes to show you don't need a $10,000 set up to do decent recordings. :)

no you only need a $10,000 set-up to record like 20-something tracks at once like dr. simon... if you just want to record one track at a time, a standard desktop PC and under $1000 worth of stuff will get you where you wanna be.

are you using studio monitors or PC speakers? if it's monitors then you have to add those to your cost too...

Nice! I really like the beginning. there was one or two places it sounded kinda off though... I dunno if it was timing or if you hit some off-key notes. but overall one of my favorites so far :)
