Distorted pickups?

I have a Buddy Guy Fender Strat with Lace Sensor pickups in it. Recently I noticed that my clean tone was distorted. It also seems like it's louder than it was before.

At first I thought it was the amp, but I tried it on three or four different amps and it sounded distorted every time. If I keep the guitar volume down, the tone is clean, but as soon as I turn it up the distortion comes back.

Anyone have any ideas? I have changed the battery out several times as well, so I'm pretty sure it's not that.

Thanks,
Carlos

Aren't those the low output gold pickups? Usually if you clean tone distorts it means you usually have a high out put pickups, mostly humbuckers. But you dont, and those pickups you have aren't high output at all...hmm...I'm guess there might be something wrong with your pickups or the wiring or something.

It might be your amp settings. Make sure your clean channel is totally clean. Sometimes, its still possible to add dirt to your clean tone.

also, are the amps your using tube or solid state? because if theyre tube, youre increased volume could be pushing the amp.

Well I'm pretty sure it isn't the amp, since I've tried it out on both tube amps and solid state amps. It doesn't matter what the tone settings and volume settings on the amp are, it always sounds distorted.

I opened the guitar up, and it doesn't look like anything is out of place. I know almost nothing about electronics, but nothing looked like it was fried and there were no loose wires. So I'm thinking maybe the pickups are just shot.

I want to sell this guitar but it would be nice to fix this problem first. I just don't want to fork out a bunch of money before I sell it.

then don't fix it! just sell it, the person who you sell it to probably won't notice anyway. then you have your cash, and he's got a guitar, and if the sound really bothers him, then he can find his own way to fix it.

don't even mention it when you're selling it. if they test it out, and they don't notice it, then they probably don't care anyway.
