With a maximum of $200, you're not going to get anything very good. If you've been playing classical guitar for 6 years, guitar is obviously your thing, so I would just save my money and get something good. I have a Squier strat that is really good. I got it with a Fender frontman 25R amp for about $500 (Cdn). However, some friends of mine have Squier guitars that are just awful, so it's sort of a toss-up. I can't really say more than that, since my strat is the only electric guitar I have ever spent any serious time playing.

I agree - you've been playing for six years, you deserve a nice axe :) . If you've been playing classical guitar, you might be better off with something like a Gibson or Epiphone Les Paul, or a Yamaha AES series - the wider neck and body shape is more similar to a classical acoustic than a Strat or Tele. I guess it depends - what style of music are you interested in playing on the electric?

If at first you don't succeed, you are obviously not Chuck Norris.

I'd look at summin nicer than Squire...the Yamaha Aes620 is a really nice axe (ask PrsPlaya, he'll tell you).
I reckon you'd be better off with a something like the Yamaha than a entry level guitar...like it says, its "entry level" which, after six years of acoutsic, you are not...so you will most likely outgrow any 200$ guitar very quickly...may as well save a bit more and get something nice at the start...

For your price range, I'd recommend searching through the racks of used guitars in every shop you can get to. As I've said before, try out as many as you can get your hands on. Close your eyes. Open your ears and your mind. Nobody can hear what's written on the headstock.

for $250, i got an Agile, and it holds its place right up there with bigger named brands.
I would seriously check out Agile guitars. great quality for cheap.

ok... now i have another question... whats the difference between Squire Strat and Fender American Stratocaster?

Squiers are the low end versions of Fenders. You might as well go with a Fender since you have experience and should treat yourself to something nicer. But I have heard about higher priced Squiers that play/sound nice.

Before you buy anything I'd suggest you check out Yamaha Pacifica's (like the 012 and 112). I've heard amazing, and i mean amazing things about those guitars, apparently they feel and sound like high range guitars but are only $199. Yamaha are sposed to be bloody awesome for that kinda stuff. They look nice as well (always a plus, makes you want to pick it up and play it) thought i'm generally not a fan of the Strat shape, almost looks like a super strat combined with an SG (very mild SG influence though). http://www.samash.com/catalog/showitem.asp?itemid=13523

I have purchased alot of good guitars from pawn shops. For 200 bucks it is possible to find a decent guitar just need to hit the pawn shops.I would not recomend a Yamaha though. Not a very good sounding guitar. You can probally find a epiphone les paul for close to that if you shop around. The squire is a decent guitat too. If I was you I would just be patient and save up a little more money and get something you can have for awhile. GOODLUCK
