This reminds me of something that happened to me recently that I thought I would share with you all. I attend high school, as some of you may know, and I widely regard the students of it as a bunch of pathetic morons. One of the things that really pisses me off is the ones that think they are "punks". In their efforts to be punks, they pretty much do all the things you can possibly do to not be a punk. The main example of this is buying name-brand wrist bands from large corporations. So one day I decided I would bring some true punk spirit to our school, and made my own wrist bands by cutting up some tattered, ugly old socks. Not much I know, but I was trying to make a point. I wore them for quite some time, and the comments never ceased to make me laugh. Here is a typical conversation I would hear:

"Why is he wearing socks on his wrists?"
"He thinks he can be punk like us"
"Hey fag, why don't you buy some ****ing wrist bands and throw out those ugly socks!?"

I always have to laugh at people like this, who try to be punks without actually knowing what it means. Scenesters, if you will. And I'm sure many of you will find it funny as well.
You go outside and practice screaming. We'll play music while you're gone.

I do. You think you're punk like me? Buy some real mass-produced fashion statements, fag! :)

Non-conformity is non-existant. Anyone who tries to be "punk" or thinks they are needs to be slapped upside the head. Hard. And multiple times. The whole mentality is rediculous. Who the hell wears wrist bands anyways? Is it really worth the effort to dress up like a moron everyday?

I think I would classify myself as a convenientist. I go to the nearest store and pick up the jeans that are in my size. Im not gonna go out of my way to look different. I express myself through my personality not my appearence.

I don't claim to be a punk, or a non-conformist.. I'll straight up tell you that I conform to trends, sort of.. I dress like a skater, but I used to be one, I just never changed my sense of style.. I don't wear wristbands, I do wear studded belts (with a belt buckle of a les paul!) I used to wear pink, then it became overly popular, and it never recieved the interesting comments as I walked through the mall, like it used to. so I stopped wearing it. I still wear vans shoes, t-shirts with the logos of skateboard companies, and then my pants (jeans and occasionally dickies) come from places like mervyn's and JcPennys.. I will admit to being a frequent shopper of the Hot topic store.. everyone in there is a poser, but they really do have some cool stuff in there. for example, I got a CD called "metal for the masses VOL. 3" in there for like $7, it was two cd's that were compilations of all kinds of metal, from modern black metal, to 80's metal. it's pretty sweet, and the cheap cost made it better.

now that I recall, I also bought my ex-girlfriend a couple of really hot thongs in there too.. may be a bit of overshare, but I'm sorry. I find girls with that goth type of look to be extremely attractive.. call it a fetish..

I don't see too many punks 'round here except every now and then at shows. I look at them in disgust cause they are posers who always wear british flags on their clothing cause they saw SLC Punk (no offense iiholly, it is a good movie). ut every time I see them at shows they are always doing something to try to be the centers of attention, even though people are there to see the bands, not foolish kids. But if there's one thing worse than poser punks its the scensters. I really do hate them with their girl pants and "emo" haircuts. As Stackny said, just be yourself. I always dress/wear what I want, hell I only wear skater shoes cause I find them more comfortable than running shoes and ect. But I also find that people who say they wont do something because its a trend are trend folowers themselves.

In my own observations and experiences, doing things based around making sure people see you how you want them to see you is BS. When you do that there's only one group of people that pays attention. High school students. The rest of the world is busy worry about the real world where looks just don't matter as much as they used to. When I got my job I had long hair and an eyebrow ring. I bailed on the ring and my hair is even longer. Do they care? I'm sure they'd like me to cut my hair, but so long as I keep the quality of my work up I don't think anything's going to really go wrong.

In addition... Goths aren't any better. Ok, you're fascinated with Tim Burton. We get it. Go away.

This reminds me of an event that happened at the last show I played at. There was a conversation between myself a bandmate. It went like this.

Tim: Dude, I don't mean to sound like a dick, but the girls here aren't very good looking.
Me: That's because they're guys.
Tim: Are you serious?
Me: Yeah, just look at them. They're dudes dressed in skirts and nylons.
Tim: Holy ****! You're right.
Me: Told you.

I'm far removed from high school but I remember trying to "fit in" by not "fitting in". Only in the 80's it was big hair and bandanas tied around the leg, ala, Sammy Hagar.

I was at an amusement park over the summer and saw several shirts that said: "You laugh at me because I'm different. I laugh at you because you're all the same". After seeing the same shirt for the 3rd time I wanted to tell the guy, "Yep, you're just as different as the other 2 guys I saw wearing that shirt"

Just be comfortable with yourself. The heck with everyone else.

My style is whack. I wear khakis, and button-downs everyday, (Dress code at work). To top it all off I got the cell phone on a belt clip. Uberdorky.
Blues is easy to play, but hard to feel.

Yeah, I generally don't go out of my way to dress in a particular way, just wear whatever is nearby, but in some cases I like to do things things like that just because it's funny and makes people say the stupidest things.

my style is very hairmetal 80's ish. today my outfit was:
a short faded gray shirt (university of hawaiii. warrior football. i think it was a handmedown)
old worn blue jeans. (with natural holes from working! no paying extra for them!)
chucks. of two different types. ones the original, sept i changed the laces to ones that say "hugs not drugs" and the other is the jamaican type. the story behind the missmatched shoes- i screwed up the other pair of both. sooooo... i have to wear one of each!

Yeah, that sounds alot like me.I don't ever buy clothes, I get the ones nobody wants anymore. All my jeans are full of holes, but they didn't come that way, it's natural wear (plus a girl I know that just likes to destroy things, such as other people's clothes) I just don't want to buy new ones. The shoe thing is cool, why buy new shoes when you have two that fit? :D

The only time I ever make sure I'm wearing something in particular is to band practices. I wear the exact same clothes every time. No reason....

My style consists of jeans and shirts. I typically wear some sort of padding on my feet like boots or shoes, which typically have socks under them. If it's a tad chilly then I'll wear a hoodie. My jeans come in a variety of colors including and limited to blue and black. My boots have steel in the toe, my shoes are old as piss and I need new shoes because the padding has long since worn out. My socks are white (yes, I wear white socks to work in an office building. I don't care). My shirts can be pretty much anything. I've got plenty of band shirts which include bands such as Cannibal Corpse, Cryptopsy, Hypocrisy, Nile, Decapitated, Opeth, Korn, Slipknot, and ICP, and I'll wear all of them even though I don't listen to nu-metal or rap anymore. Other shirts include shirts that advertise various products of food, household cleaning supplies, or utility services (Spam, Mr. Clean, SBC, OIP&T college). The rest are all blank shirts from various makers which include, but are not limited to Calvin Klein.

I was talkin' to this one kid, one day, he was wearin' a led zeppelin t-shirt. i said, "you like led zeppelin". He said, "yeah, they make good shirts". And I said, "okay...do you like their songs?" he said. T-shirts don't play music.
He thought LED ZEPPELIN WAS A T-SHIRT COMPANY!!!!!!!!!!!!! BECAUSE TONS OF RETARDS WEAR THEM JUST TO LOOK COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is easily the saddest thing I have ever read... seriously... I'm disheartened by that. Just earlier today I was listening to Led Zeppelin and recalling how good their music is... and to read that... Jesus Wept.
