What is wrong with you guys? By no means is Green Day a sellout...yes, they're ageing...everyone ages, but to say that their past their prime is ridiculous...there is a reason why Boulevard of Broken Dreams has been overplayed on the radio so many times...and there's a reason why over 10 million people bought Dookie...had 1,039 or Kerplunk been recorded in a bigger company, I bet it'd have sold as well as Dookie or American Idiot.

There is a difference between being a good band... and appealing to the masses... Green Day appeals to the masses... They came out with American Idiot and pinpointed a hot button issue... American politics... at the same time that the Government of the United States launches a mass campaign to educate the youth about current political issues... Basically the government wants the youth to stop being apathetic toward political views and start voting... since we're the next generation of voters... Green Day exploited that in American Idiot... hammering the nail... taking sides with the millions of.... ironically.... ill-educated American youth that believe political decisions are souly in the hands of the President of the United States... So basically they're riding the Anti-Bush wave... I'm not calling them sell outs... I don't think they are... they still make the same simple, non musically difficult, 4 power chord downstroke music that they always have... I have no problem listening to Green Day for what it is worth... I just don't view them as "The best band ever". Sure they were influencial... and now they have lost that influence... because they are now in the same genre as pop/rock. THAT'S why Boulevard of Broken Dreams and When September Ends have been overplayed... they're on the 25 song repearting playlist of every pop/rock station nation wide...

As I re read my last post... it comes across more hostile than I intended. I was just trying to make a point on how Green Day exploited the uprising amongst the youth who are trying to be more politically aware... but instead are falling more into the clutches of propaganda warfare... I think Green Days songwriting on the American Idiot album is some of their best... but not the most "Green Day-ish". They're a great band... but not even in the top 10 or 15 all time... in my opinion... I did see that a guitar magazine... Guitar ONE, I do believe, voted American Idiot into the top 10 best concept albums ever made... which was hard for me to believe considering they left out Pink Floyds Dark Side of the Moon...

Another good band that just made a name is 10 Years... they've got a Tool sound too... but once again... I'm not going to call them the best band ever... But yeah... I'm sure lots of people have heard of Tool... they just don't hold as high of an opinion about them as you do...

I like to think I am a fairly avid Tool fan, and it might help if you got your facts straight - they have not disbanded - A Perfect Circle is a side project for Maynard (all the members of Tool haev side projects of one kind or another). Granted they haven't released an album for 5 years, but the fact is, they have just put the finishing touches to their new one, and it is scheduled for release in May.
Just thought I would clear that up.

The problem I see now is what people think of Green Day. They think that Green Day is all about American Idiot and it's just nonsense! What about the other 6 albums? (Not counting International Superhits! and Shenanigans) Are those 6 albums fake? Definitely not...which is why I think that people should change their mindset on Green Day and American Idiot...Green Day has lots more fans now...why? 'Becoz of A.I, Holiday, Boulevard of Broken Dreams or even Wake Me Up When September Ends. But what if their next album were to be written about teenage angst again? (Of course, it's highly impossible...) Then what will these Few Song Fans do? Hate them? It's just ridiculous...

Oh yes, one thing though...the album American Idiot isn't exactly political...yes, maybe the song American Idiot might be the Anti-Bush type, but the rest of the songs basically isn't...the whole albums actually a story.

Yeah, most of the rest of the album's lyrical content is composed of vaguely anti-establishment imagery and semi-symbolism, rather than coherent political messages. That doesn't stop it from being a decent album, though - it's just not the polemical punk opera that it's hyped up to be.

On the contrary, I thought it was an amazing album...I know that some bands have done some punk operas before but Green Day's one was amazing. The story seems well thought out and it's a very very nice one as well.

Yeah, it's nice to see that a band other than the Dead Kennedys or Pennywise is trying to make more engaging music than Good Charlotte or the All-American Rejects.

First of all, leetyguy, it's Green Day. And secondly, have you been listening to too much radio?

No offence meant, by the way - just my humble opinion :o

You know youre never gonna get to the bottom of this dont you? :P

Either way, whenever theres a public vote (usually screened on channel 4) Green day never come within the top 50. The only way this would happen is if all the voters were 14 years old. There will always be bands like The Beatles, U2 and the Stones who will always be at the top of the list. Do I like them? Not really, but that doesnt make them any less talented.

The fact that Green day have finally gone out on a whim and made a 'political' album doesn't make them good. If that were the case then RATM would piss all over them, and early punk bands like the Subhumans and Crass would actually be classed as musical - something they really aren't. If Green day happen to make consistantly good albums then I'll relent and admit their talent, but American Idiot is the first "decent" album they've done in the last decade so I refuse to give them credit. Being political is neither here nor there, its just old hat.

I'll agree that Sevendust are underrated, but they just can't compare to the insane genius of Iron Maiden.
