I thought that it might be fun to come up with something similar to the King Of The Jams with a difference. How about all of us shredders put together a massive guitar war with trade offs between as many people as possible?
To make it work we first need a coherent backing track that has some definite direction and key changes to maintain interest.
Perhaps we/someone/I/whoever, could come up with say 6 diferent riffs with a definite interlinking theme, make them available separately for download. Anybody interested could download the backing mp3's (cut to exact length for sequencing), post it back with the solo overlaid, then after enough responses, we could have a vote for which solos sound the best, then I could sequence them in Cubase and post the finished product?
First of all, let me know if you are interested and leave a few suggestions. THen we will put a framework together that will work for everyone.
Hope to hear from all metal guitarists, shredders and just plain mean guitarists out there!

i remember me and a friend saw that while surfing **** in photography class, and we where both like GUITAR WAR, DUDE!!!! and high fived, bevis and butthead style. i just thought the concept of making leage-like competition with instruments was the coolest thing ever. just thinking about it makes me pee my pants a little. :p

We'd have to recall it "Kings of the Jams", but it just might work. Perhaps winners of one 'round' couldn't win another one, so we wouldn't end up with 5 of Scott's (the instructor & reigning King) solos.

Yep, that framework will probably be the most important thing. I'm not very mean, I don't consider myself a shredder, but metal's cool.

Sounds like we could come up with a pretty cool melting pot of ideas. It doesnt matter too much if the style are different on the lead playing once the backing tracks work.

1 solo each sounds the way to do it.

How about we come up with a few backing tracks between us and take a vote on what to solo over? That way everyone gets input from start to finish and doesnt have to solo over something they see as unworkable.

Timing and number of bars etc all comes down to the backing tracks, so why not post up a few ideas in the Listening Forum?
Subject line: Metal Jam Backing - Superhuman (or what ever your handle is)

Post any ideas either so we can get the show on the road. I'll get something together in the next 24 hrs myself.

Awesome idea Superhuman!

though, I am yet to record something and post it. Im kinda nervous because of the feed back. What I want to do is just record a freestyle vid or sound clip and post it.

Ditto, I don't even own a bass, and my drum machine is a zoom (not the greatest). Not that I prolly couldn't, but it could take week(s).

Yes, do that. Don't be modest.

Exactly, who cares about the feedback. Anyone who slates anothers playing rather than giving some "usefull" pointers has no right to be here in the first place. The whole point of this is for a bit of fun, its not an audition for a recording contract!

I'd love to get involved in this. count me in... so, what I'm understanding is that we'd each do a solo over a backing track and then join them all together for one super instrumental song? or is this gonna be like king of the jams were we just do it and people vote on who they liked best? either way, I'm in.

I've been as busy as a mofo at work his week, havent had a chance to get any potential backing tracks down yet. Great to see such a high level of interest, thius should turn out to be a really cool project. Anyone else with a decent home studio is more than welcome to throw a few riffs into the melting pot for backing tracks.... I wont be able to get at my axe untill the weekend... I post something soon but everyone should have a say on what is to be chosen as the bacing track... this will dictate the direction of the piece sounds afterall
