What sort of thing are we looking for here... just a short riff to loop over and over or... a thrash riff repeated four times then some ringing power chords?

Hell, lets just get a rough backing together to see how this experiment will pan out. Kinda like making a test pancake, ya dig?

Does anyone have even a marginal talent using leaf drums or fruity loops?

Seems to me like someone here plays bass, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if there are others that do too. Failing that, my RP300 has an Octave lowering effect on it (sounds like ass, but maybe in a pinch...).

I suggest we post two sound files. One that's the main riff or backing that can be looped as many times as a person needs, as well as a common 2-4 bar fill that will separate each of us.

Any volunteers?

count me in! But to the backing track thing, couldnt we have a group of people make backing tracks, some for each genre of music and have everybody vote for which ones for which styles?

I think that's a great idea, as far as backing track I vote for lets put a few samples there and let see what works out, w'd need someone to put the whole stuff together.

I'm in if I may :D

so, are we set on doing in heavy metal shred style? or which kind of music are we doing here? I could attempt to make a backing track. but it depends on the style of music, and metal would be my strong suit. so, if it's metal, then I might be able to... (no drums or bass though...)

Without drums, try to play with a metronome and post your bpm and maybe someone else can put drums to it. Another thing is we'll have to decide soon enough what key to play in...and what tuning. I dunno, we don't even have any sketches yet...I'll try to throw something down tomorrow just to start anything at this point.

yeah, I don't even have a metronome (how sad is that) and since I'm not too good at making backing tracks anyway, I think I'm having second thoughts, and I'll just leave it to someone with some more experience (and better recording gear)... but I'll still get in on the solo stuff

I'm a procrastinator myself, but I've laid down a riff. Nothing special by any means...just some chunky power chords. And this particular take isn't meant to be used yet, I'm just throwin it out there for some feedback, and if warranted, I'll polish it up for everyone's use.
Jam Track is no longer there...but you're welcome to check out my other stuff.

that is what i sorta pictured as the ya know backing music for the solo. anyways just get a real drummer to nail that and if we can have some more ppl agree lets get this going!
When it comes down to it, our guitar's will always be there for us.

Let's see...the opening power chord is D flat, and initial attempts with the minor pentatonics work well there. But then it shifts to E power chords which I feel is the actual home for the song. E Mixolydian works well too. In that case, I should prolly call that first chord a C# instead, haha, but whatever same thing. Standard A440 tuning.

I like the jam track, it took me about 3 seconds of listening to it before I was just thinking how my solo could sound over that... lol

although i like Shackleferd's better, it seems to me this one would be a bit easier to solo to- its less complicated. im gunna try to record something one of these days if i get to it

Yep, took that off a long time ago...thought this thread died. But personally I like your take better anyways. Definitely you have better recording capabilities than I, and it does have a more simplistic backbone more likely to spawn metal leads...the original intent of this all.

would if I could... but I have no bass... plus... my home recording studio cost me about $5... so I can't get good sound quality no matter what I do... I'm going to get an 8-track sometime soon though... so I'm still in for recording a solo.
