I am going to buy a new amp, a combo amp but don't want to pay more than $300 for one. I would like one with effects and sounds nice on clean and lead, I think a Crate FXT65 would be good because of the DSP and all the different effects, I would rather an amp have a nicer clean sound but a good distorted sound. more ampage would be nice but I don't know if they have any within that price range, can someone please suggest a good amp for $300 at the most?
Thank you

I believe the Line 6 Spider II would be better than the Crate. I haven't played either of the amps, but I have been very happy with the Line 6 gear that I do have. I would also check out the Vox AD30VT. It's supposed to be a pretty good and very versatile amp.

Good luck finding your amp!

Stay away from Crate amps. Like PRS said, give the Line 6 Spider II a try.

Yeah, check out the Spider II. I've played one and they get really good tone for the price. I have also heard the Vox amp that PRS suggested is good. So you might want to go check one out at a shop. The only Crate that I've ever played is a Blue Voodoo 120 half stack that I use to have. I was very impressed with it as a tube amp. I'm not sure about there solid state combo stuff. But yeah, check out the Line 6 Spider II

TRY everything you can. Our rhythm guitarist uses a Roland Cube 60. The clean sounds are first-rate and the distortions are pretty good. The built in effects are good. You may have to do some shopping, try ebay, but you should be able to get one for $300 or less.

I have a SpiderII 210 120Watts it has amazing sounds and effects and the effects are actually useful unlike other amps with built in effects. the amp models are really great but i only really use it for metal id suggest to spring for a Spider II 112 thats 75 watts because all of the lower models only have 4 amp models instead of 12 and the one below it is 30 watts anyways so thats not really enough wattage. but i heard that some people think the clean tone isnt great but i dont have a problem with it but one thing to do for sure is try it because its not for everyone

BTW what kind of music do you listen to?

Thanks for your inputs, they are very helpful. I listen to a lot of country, mostly the newer age stuff, I like southern rock and oldies rock, and like to play that kind of music on my guitar, I'll play just about anything I can teach myself or me and my friends can figure out.

I have found, locally, a Line 6 Flextone II 60 watt with a footboard and some nice effects for 200 and that sounds like an awesome deal, or is it?

Just wondering, but what are u going to use it for? If its a practice amp, you dont need 60w really, so I wouldnt pay $200 for it. If it is for a gig then right on man.

Not too many gigs, our bass player and our other guitarist has 60 watt amps and my squire 15 can't keep up with them. Most of the playing I do is just with a few friends but I was figuring on buying one with about 60 watts that i can use for just playing around or any gigs we might have, plus our school guitar instructor now teaches band and he hopes to have us play in the gymnasium, and I with an amp that size I was hoping could last me a long time and not need to upgrade until far down the road

Well my friend bought a new fender 200+ i am not sure but it is at least 200, so he says, :) , My bass player is telling me I need one with more than the 60 watt amp i am thinking about buying, enough to match his and the new one my bass player says he is going to get this summer. I think 60 watts should be enough but i don't want to be drowned out by the others, The Line 6 will have much better effects than theirs which is why i think i should go ahead with the line 6 60 watt, do you think that will be enough? Thank you for all of you guy's help

Sounds like your in a dilemma danny, lol. my freind just bought a 200 watt Randall Classic head for 125, bought a behringer 4x12 cab for 229. now that may be about 50 bucks or so over your budget, but lemme tell ya, that amp has all of the balls you will ever need. the overdrive is real classic-rock styled because of the way the EQ is (put a graphic eq in the FX loop, and look out... ;) ) and the clean channel is pretty good too, with an optional bright switch. but hey, wat do i know? im all about gettin as much bang for the buck as i can, lol. ne ways, hope that this helped, and take care!

Hey Thanks, I am all for getting more bang for my buck too, lol. I think i will be better off with a combo amp at least for now though, but if the right deal came along, i sure wouldnt turn it down. Would it be worth it to look into a head and cab for the extra money? I am a cheapskate and hate the idea of spending anymore than 300 on it unless i can help it ;) Thanks again

That Line 6 Flextone II amp is a great little amp. If it ends up not being loud enough, you have 2 options... You could run it's line out into the PA, or you could get an extension cabinet for it to give you and extra speaker. I'd say go for it, because you just can't beat it's versatility, but I would make sure that that particular model has an external speaker out though.

Thanks PRSplaya, I think I will go with the Flextone because I can at least play on it first and if I don't think it's what i need, I can always look somewhere else. I have been doing research on ut and it sounds like thats what i have been looking for with it being so versatile, i might buy an extra speaker later on if i need more power, thanks for the advice everyone.

Anymore advice is appreciated too. :)

I bought to Flextone II and i am glad i did. Thanks for all of the advice and when i get a little more experienced with the amp i will write a review about, but all i can say is i recommend this amp to anyone, it has more power and effects than i will probably ever need, so thanks again guys.
