Im gonna have to disagree with that. They're both good guitarists, but i think slash just plays smoother and writes better music. Just recently i noticed that Kirk Hammet isn't all that great. But i do think that his playing improved from Kill Em All to RTL to MOP. After watching Some Kind Of Monster this weekend, Ive lost a lot of respect for Metallica. But their old school stuff still kicks ass. So yea, Slash wins in my book.

Slash is much more consistent than Kirk Hammet. Look at the solo to "Seek and Destroy" it comes out of nowhere and basically represents everything guitar playing SHOULDN'T be. Just a random wankfest. Slash is much more tasteful, and, while recognizable, much less repetitive. Bottom line, Slash is a much better, more tasteful guitarist than Kirk ever was or can be. I don't know why I bother participating in these "______ vs. ______" threads.

Plus on Kirk Hammet's later work (*cough* where he'd run out of licks *cough*), he just hides behind his Wah pedal. Hammet doesn't have the imagination Slash does. Seems like a cool enough guy, though.

To me, it's not who's better, they both have great qualities, just different styles...

I'm not really a big fan of either of the two. Techincally speaking, I think Kirk might have the edge, Slash on the other hand writes and plays with alot more emotion.

Who would I rather listen too?? Probably Krik, for the shear reason that I like metallica more then GnR

Well I'm prolly gonna catch a lot of flack for this but I like Kirk Hammet better, I like his style I like his solos, and I like his attitude. I love Slash too, but Kirk is awesome.

Actually a lot of great guitarists have used the wah in the past, Jimi Hendrix loved it, Dime used it, and my biggest big gun...Cream...listen to The Tale of Brave Ulysses by Cream, the whole song is wah man, but it's great. As is a lot of Kirk's stuff, I am in know means trying to say that Kirk is the best guitarist out there but I don't think he deserves all the flack that is thrown at him.

Further proof that it is a matter of personal taste, I know a lot of guitarists that love Kirk's stuff as much as I do. I also know a lot who despise him, and I know a few that don't give two $h!t$ either way. I respect ya'lls opinions, all I ask is that you respect mine as well.

Tim Sult, the guitarist in Clutch, uses wah almost all night long and you'd never notice it; with Hammet, like it or love it, it's in your face the whole night and impossible to ignore. I can't say that a single guy you mentioned up there uses wah the same way Kirk does.

A guy I know who's been a Metallica fan forever and ever (one of the best guitarists I know, actually) went to see them a few years ago. As soon as he got back from the show, he went straight to his pedal board, removed his wah and threw it in a closet. I'm not sure how long it took that poor ol' Vox to make it back into his signal chain, but it took a long time.

I'm not one to get up in arms either way about Hammet, but I do think that his wah usage does offer fair grounds for criticism.

Before I really knew much about playing the guitar, I loved and was amazed by Kirk, but then I learned how to play, and am not that big of a fan anymore. Either way you look at it....

SLASH

wins my vote any day of the week.

It's definatly personal taste who prefer's who but i think overall Slash wins all round he is a much better guitarist, not to knock kirk, he has come up with some amazing material, but he has got very sloppy as he has got older.
Jk
Why doesn't my amp go up to 11, :(

I obviously gotta go with Slash he's done more for me than most guitarists. Kirk was on his way to being a legend. Orion is one of my favorite songs of all time.
Blues is easy to play, but hard to feel.

Hammit is definately better, just listen and compare, slash may have more emotional solos, but wen it comes to pure energy and skill, Hammit takes it...........................
