Band Name

Hey,
My names Kathleen .... guitarchick to you guys but , I'm starting a band soon and we're going to have a drummer, bass, keyboard, and 2nd guitar. I will be doing vocals and lead guitar. But I was wondering if anyone could help me think up a band name?? I know that it could be personal or mean something.. but I figure this will give me some ideas. I'm trying to make it an all girls band right now .... that is if I can find enough girls who play . So maybe something along those lines....
well anyways if you can help that'd be awesome!

What style/s of music will you be playing? Certain names work better with different styles. For example, something like "Autumn's Twilight" would suit an emo band well but would be pretty rediculous for a country band.

What up guitarchick! Starting a new band sounds cool- I agree that it's tough to suggest names without a style in mind, although sometimes a wildly inappropriate name can be fun as well. I would be careful to avoid doing anything like The Donnas or the Lunachicks, both of those bands are excellent at what they do, but a name too similar to those might getcha pigeonholed (heh- pigeonholed could be a good name...awful puns every which waY) as like imitators of those bands.

bear in mind though that I have played in bands called "3 non porn stars" and "The Corky Thatcher Experience." (we had some major issues).

I still have the ad from the Providence Phoenix when we played a gig under that name- it was a joke I made one night, and the only band name I've suggested that stuck.

Truthfully I felt like a total jerk for coming up with it... but I guess I could have suggested The Window-Lickers or something awful like that! Anyway, it was a punk rock band playing a dive bar, but still a hilarious memory!

Yes, exactly! And of course this was a tribute! -ahem- yes, a TRIBUTE... to his... um... rising above a terrible handicap and um... being a success... story... hello? is this thing on?

nah we were just being obnoxious, but that article is actually quite touching. He does more with his life than I have, and I am supposedly "normal" for whatever that means. Maybe more of us do need a kick in the pants to get out there and do our thing...

Lol thanks guys! This is a lot harder than I thought it would be because its so hard to find girls that actually wanna play and make it work. Most of them are a little more interested in how they're gonna look on stage and dont really know what a band is . Lol oh well.... i'm starting to think maybe i should mix it up instead of having just a chick band. What do you think ?

I would say this- if you set prerequisites for who can be in the band, you limit the ability to find a mixture of people who have the perfect chemistry to make the sound you want. I would say this: find people who have ability and desire to make good music, and who you can grow with as an artist. Picking a band mate for anything beyond their musical ability/attitude/outlook is like dating someone just for looks- sure getting seen in public with a total hottie is sweet, but if they're a pain in the butt, you're getting nowhere, and what's the point of that?

If people are sweatin weather or not they'll look good on stage, that's the exact opposite of what I would want to be in a band with- people like that tend to be ego driven and will either hog the spotlight and never give someone else a chance to shine, or just be a pain in the butt, which you don't need in a band. I once played with what I thought was the biggest ego on human record, and F him.

So um yeah... man I need coffee... hope that helps at least a little.

Yah it does for sure thank you! Its not that I wanted to segregate a certain group, its just that I really wanted to encourage the girls in my school to open up a bit and show off what musical talent they had. But ... I gave it a shot and it didnt work so im gonna take the advice and just let it come to me. We'll see how it goes and i'll keep ya posted!

firstly let me intraduse myself, im jason male obviasly
ok now some small but helpful advise... the first thing i thought of when i first thought of creating a band was what instrament i was gonna play, and will it get my point across(the songs),which kind of was the wronge way to look at it,so i desised to start all over after playing guitar for over 6 mounth and relised i wasnt getting anywhere! what i did was start playing one thing only one type of music (punk rock) after i acomplished what i wanted i moved on to rock, from there to other things and combinded it and had a sucsess!! now i know what you are thinking... is why the hell am i telling you all this...simple cause i can tell that u have an idea of what music you want to play, but witch may change when you get band members right??? anyway lets move on to your quiestion a band name well seing that you wanted an all girls band hows bout something like "girls can rock" or "girls point of view" or ever "chick festavile" bust seing that your not gonna get any girls try something simple like "guys will do" or ever "not so intelagent" may be even "fifty fifty" if u have any quiestions or need help email me at [email]yacoolman_2004@hotmail.com[/email]
