Metronome??

Hey, i just downloaded a metronome since ive heard alot about them on this site. But, how do i use it? do i only play it with tapping, or can i use it for others types of play? also, i dont really know if i am keeeping in time or not? in other words, i dont if i am doing it right?..any help will be appreciated..

we get lots of people applying to be a host. so, we get examples of a lot of players. the biggest technical problem we see is that some players are used to being their own timekeeper, and their timing is really inconsistent.

I always recommend playing with an external tempo source. a drum machine, another musician, or a metronome. It will do wonders for your playing with any technique.

Just bumping this back up because I have no idea how to use mine either and would like some more info myself.

I've always found playing with a metronome to be a pain in the butt. I can never seem to get the timing on the metronome right to match what I'm playing . . . maybe I, like Stratman, just have no idea how to use it. I've always had a good sense of rythym, so I've never bothered to learn how to use it, but for beginners I would at least recommend that they try it out.

I always use a drum track. I would be curious to hear if anyone thinks it better to use a metronome.

In the absence of any other advice, I would recommend that you try a drum machine. There is a shareware program called fruity loops that will do the trick.

I've only recently started using a metronome, mainly to increase my speed; however, it's improved my timing tenfold. The trick is to listen to what you're playing were. The things I practise general are sixteeth notes anyway, so I just make sure every fifth note is played on a click, but it's important to work on your timing. I suggest you finding a good rhythmn guide which explains how everything is broken up and then go from there. http://www.ultimateguitar.com had a very good one.
