Description

In this tutorial we'll explore a super fun subgenre of rock, known as New Wave. This sound is a lot less guitar-centric than other types of rock, but the guitar is still very much a part of the sound and it’s a ton of fun to play around in this musical universe. Today we’ll break down a New Wave practice tune that I’ve written to incorporate all the best elements of this iconic sound.

As always you can play these examples on any gear you have, but I’ll be using my Telecaster on the bridge pickup going through my usual Ampeg tube amp with a tiny bit of overdrive and reverb.

The most iconic sound I’m using is the chorus effect, which is a powerful sound. As soon as you engage this effect it transports you to exactly the vibe we’re exploring in our practice tune today. Of course you can easily play the practice tune without a chorus effect as well, so don’t stress if you don’t have access to this effect right now.
