Description

In this lesson we'll look at the chord progression for the song. It's a 32 measure song form and in this lesson we'll look at the first half of the form, the first 16 measures. We'll start the whole arrangement with a 4 measure turnaround. We'll also play this 4 measure turnaround twice at the end as a tag. The boom chick, root note, then chord strumming pattern will be used throughout the song. We'll start at a low dynamic and then gradually rise in volume and attack.

This is rhythmically active strumming is reminiscent of gypsy jazz guitar strumming called 'Le Pompe', meaning 'the pump'. It's similar to 'boom-chick' strumming but done with a swing rhythm emphasizing the backbeats (two and four).
