The term “campfire guitar” sometimes gets a bit of a corny rep, but it's a useful term or image because in that classic situation you have just the 6 strings and two hands, and you have to make it work and entertain a bunch of people. So in this chapter we'll keep building up skills that can be used in a situation like this or really any other situation where it's just you and a guitar.

In this first tutorial we'll dive in and fully explore how to strum with a swing feel, both for 8th and 16th note based strumming patterns. This may seem deceptively simple at first, but behind the basic mechanics there's a whole world of personal expression and important musicianship to be explored.
