Description
I'm using a Stratocaster, but any electric guitar with a single coil pickups is a great choice. Select position 2 on the Strat's 5 way switch for a phasey, bell-like tone perfect for Guitar 1's parts. For Guitar 2, select the bridge pickup for some crisp clarity perfect for power chords and leads.
As far as amps go, any Fender style tube amp is a desirable choice. Set up the amp for a clean tone. Set the Drive to 30%, Bass to 45%, Mid to 55%, Treble to 65%, and Presence to 60%.
For Guitar 2, kick in an overdrive or distortion pedal to get a meaty crunch tone.
Both guitars use plenty of chorus, delay, and reverb for a huge arena sound, typical of many 80s pop productions.
I'm using a 10-46 string gage and a heavy pick to aggressively dig into the licks and riffs in the song.
Here are the settings I used:
Fender Twin Model:
Drive: 30% Bass: 45% Mid: 55% Treb: 65% Presence: 60%
Tube Screamer (Guitar 2)
Drive: 85% Tone: 65%
Chorus:
Rate: 40% Depth: 50% WetDryMIX: 45%
Delay:
Time: 400ms Feedback: 35% WetDryMix: 40%
Hall Reverb:
WetDryMIX: 35%
