Ok, so they are not easy to play. BUT, they are important to understand, as they provide a very systematic way for you to begin to understand more about the logic and the workings of the guitar fretboard.
Also, since you now have at least one option for how to play ANY major or minor chord in music, you no longer have to avoid songs that contain major or minor chords you didn't previously have in your repertoire.
Also, it is very common for certain barre chords to show up in songs that are otherwise mostly played with open chords. It's very important to be able to get these into your comfort zone, so you are not locked out of learning songs that contain mostly easy chords, but may also contain a barre chord or two.
