What's up, it's Mike from Guitar Tricks, teaching you "My Kinda Party" as made famous by Jason Aldean. This is a modern country rock hit that features a multi-layered combination of rock, pop, and country elements.

I'll teach this song using 3 guitar layers. Guitar 1 is an acoustic guitar that strums the chord progression and provides the backbone of the song. Guitar 2 is a crunch guitar that plays the melodic hook of the tune, as well as some beefy chordal support and single note riffs. Guitar 3 is the lead guitar that digs into some killer classic-rock infused licks.

The tune starts off with Guitar 2 playing the melodic theme of the song, while Guitar 1 lays a solid foundation, strumming on the chord progression. The verses are played at a lower dynamic, and build through the pre-chorus into the higher dynamic of the chorus sections. There is a killer guitar solo after the second chorus that builds to a climax. The final chorus winds down to a low dynamic, only to be ramped up again for the extended outro solo featuring some searing licks to end off the tune!

To play this tune using only one guitar, play Guitar 1 all the way through. All guitar layers require a capo placed at the first fret.

In the following lessons, we'll talk about acoustic strumming patterns, palm muting, octaves, blazing classic rock style leads, and dynamics. We are in the key of C minor, with a 4/4 time signature, at a tempo of 89 BPM.
