Description

Guitar 1 will be mainly playing a bluesy little rhythm lick that's got a really funky feel to it. These types of guitar parts can be heard all over Motown and R&B records.

This guitar part may seem simple enough, but the key to this part is finding the pocket and sitting in perfectly with the groove - it's one of those guitar parts that should feel great with the rest of the band. An important thing to keep in mind here is to keep focused and be consistent, because you'll be spending most of the song playing this part.

What's going to happen over the turnaround is that guitar 1 is actually going to cut out and not play anything. So you'll just sit those bars out and come back in with the lick again. For the stop before the chorus, we're simply going to play just the melodic part of the lick and then stop.
