Description
Up until this point we have been soloing in the main key of the song and staying in that key throughout the whole solo, even when the chords change underneath it. This approach is called "key center" soloing, and it works like a charm for rock and many other styles of music.
In this tutorial I'm going to introduce you to another extremely useful approach, where you follow or "outline" the underlying harmony in your soloing. This is done by locating and emphasizing certain key notes and chord tones in your licks and adapting them to fit the different chords.
This can be a little tricky at first, but it will open the door to a whole new world of sounds and possibilities, and we'll take it all one step at a time. Let's get started!
