Crossfire

Description

Stevie Ray Vaughan is famous for his incredible tone, and that tone is a huge part of his overall sound. If you want to imitate that you'll need a Strat with really heavy strings, a tube amp, and a Tube Screamer overdrive pedal. But getting the tone right is not even half the battle, because his playing is what makes this tone so interesting. If he were to pick up your guitar as it is right now, I'm sure he could make it sound amazing without changing a thing! So always keep that in mind.

All that being said, I'll be using my Strat today, and I'll be running it through a modeled Fender amp with the volume cranked so it breaks up quite a bit. I've also added a tiny bit of reverb. Then I'm adding a distortion pedal similar to a Tube Screamer in front of it to get the extra overdrive, and I have the volume set to match the bypassed volume, with the drive set to 12 o'clock and tone set to 8 o'clock. I'm using the front and middle pickup combination for the verse and chorus fills, and then I switch to the middle pickup for the solos in order to cut through a little more.
