Description
The main guitar in this song has this really awesome fuzztone on it.
To get this tone, you want to start with a totally clean tone, no overdrive or crunch; most fuzz pedals are meant to have anything but a clean tone as foundation. So, you want it to be kind of grainy and buzzy with not too much bass but also not too much treble because you don't want it to be shrill, you just want it to sound nice and buzzy.
The rhythm guitar played in the song has a surprisingly dry tone for surf. It's very nice and clean so that you can hear the rhythms well.
The solo on the other hand has plenty of reverb and is played with a sort of cranked up clean tone that's just all vibe. And once again you don't want it to be shrill, nice and warm but with a lot of spank to it.
I'm using my Strat today and I'll be on the bridge pick up for all of the guitar parts, single coils here but if you have a humbucker guitar you're just as well off, it's really about the playing rather than the guitar.
