In this song tutorial we're gonna check out a full blown classic rocker, Pat Benatar's "Hit Me With Your Best Shot". Recorded in 1979, the song definitely has an 80s vibe to it and we'll check out what makes this song so popular.

The main chord progression in E major actually functions as a riff more than a chord progression and has become one of the most recognizable riffs and rock guitar hooks of the 80s.

We'll be checking out a great guitar solo with lots of cool licks; the solo by itself is a great lesson in 80s guitar and incorporates (among many other things) fast picking technique, hammer-ons and pull-offs and some interesting bends and vibratos.

The bridge is a broken down verse with a very interesting rhythm guitar part consisting of some really cool arpeggios and rhythmic synchopations.

The tone we'll be using is "Telecaster crunch" for the most part, but adding some nice thick distortion for the solo!

So let's just fire away...
