The Major Barre Chord

In this lesson I'll show you how to play a basic major barre chord. This is not something you'll get good at just by watching this video. It will take some time and hard work, and it may seem impossible at times. But we've all been there, and we all learned it eventually so you can too!

How is your thumb positioned when playing barre chords? Is there a specific position to make it easier? And one more question: is it still ok if my index finger stands out from the a bit more than its show on the video (more or less the whole nail is not on the fretboard). I found out that this is the position that makes it the easiest to make the high strings ring clearly. Thanks in advance! Tomasz

Hi Tom, The thumb is super important because it acts as an opposing force to keep your fingers down. Unless you have massive hands, try to keep the thumb behind the neck as if you could touch it to your finger tips through the neck. As far as how far the finger sticks out, that's up to you to figure out what is more comfortable. Go for pressing down only enough for the notes to all sound without buzzing. I hope this helps!
