Practicing Major Modes

Get full access
Description

In this tutorial we will practice the major modes: ionian, lydian and mixolydian. We'll review the unique interval formula of each major mode and how to play them. We'll play each mode on the same root note to use them in an ornamental manner. We'll get a lot of practice playing and hearing the unique characteristics of each mode.

We will be able to directly compare and contrast the modes by playing each one starting on the note A. Therefore, instead of staying in one major scale (one key), and playing the modes of that one scale or key, we will play each mode as if it were it's own pattern apart from any parent scale.

By playing each mode starting on the same note (in this case A), we can more readily compare and contrast each mode against the others. We can directly hear the unique, characteristic sound of every mode.
