Description

What else does the left hand do?

On a more subtle level, your left hand also has a secondary, but equally important, job called muting. This means that your left hand fingers will also have to stop strings from making unwanted sound; this is also called fretting hand muting. Often this is done by fretting the strings that you do want to sound and at the same time using other fingers to lightly rest on the remaining strings so they do not make any unwanted sound. This might sound complicated, but with practice it can easily become an automatic process.
