Major Pentatonic & Hexatonic Melodies: Lesson
Betts’s lead playing was very influenced by the bluegrass and country he heard as a youngster. The result was he used it as the basis of most of his single note lines. The primary scale used was the major pentatonic, then he added the 4th as an ornamental note to actually make it a ‘hexatonic’ (6 note) scale. This is the classic sound of the Allman Bros melodies.
