What's up, it's Mike from Guitar Tricks, teaching you "Cherry Bomb" as made famous by The Runaways. This is a 70s era pop rock classic with some great rhythm and lead parts.

This song features 2 electric guitar layers. Both guitars feature a classic tube amp overdrive crunch tone. One plays the chord progression with some steady palm muted strums, as well as some wide open strumming, adding some fills in the chorus. The second guitar plays the guitar solo.

The tune starts out with a short intro that features some steady eighth note strumming on power chords using palm muting. It starts at a relatively low dynamic, which is then extended into the verse section. There are lots of punctuated stabs in between the palm muting of the verse. The chorus transitions to more wide open rocking at a higher dynamic. The solo is short and aggressive, exuding a classic rock style. There are plenty of bends, hammer-ons, and pull offs used with minor pentatonic and minor scales. The final verse and chorus modulates up for more excitement!

To play this tune using only one guitar, play Guitar 1 all the way through, switching to Guitar 2 for the solo.

In the following lessons, we'll talk about power chords and barre chords, palm muting, classic rock lead techniques, and dynamics. We are in the key of B major, with a 4/4 time signature, at a tempo of 138 BPM.
