Now it's time to explore another type of fill, which is an actual lead lick. A lead lick can easily take too much attention away from the singer and the melody, so it's your job to make sure it's relevant to the song and carefully timed. In this lesson we'll explore this concept and apply it to the backing track.

I hope this tutorial has given you a good idea of how to go about playing fills in a rock context. Playing fills is super fun for both you and the listener, because it engages in a musical "dialogue" between you and the singer or another lead instrument in a sense that sort of transcends the instruments. Just remember to never play fills over anything else, there has to be some space to fill for it to work right. Have fun with it!
